CHAPPELLES SHOW ISNT CLOSE TO IN LIVING COLOR
AND LONGEVITY MATTERS...

:stopitslime:HOW YOU COMPARING A SHOW THAT HAD
25 TOTAL EPISODES TO A SHOW
THAT DID 26 EPISODES A SEASON?

AS YOU CAN SEE CHAPELLE SHOW
WAS ABOUT TO FALL OFF HEAVY HAD IT WENT MORE THAN 2 SEASONS.

Its Chappelle for me
I watch ILC on cable every once in a while and its a tough watch these days, mostly due to their skits being topical to that time period (Rodney King, etc)
The platinum Chappelle skits will never get old
You can say the exact same thing for Chappelle. Skits centered around And1 mixtapes, The Real World, Making the Band, the first black president...
CS gets the nod here only because of ages of the posters, but if you were around and old enough for what these shows were parodying at the time, then time going by will not be a factor in those sketches not still being funny now

CS was a one man show, 95% of the memorable moments are Chappelle characters. ILC had a huge variety of talent, and did what they did for 5 years on network tv. If they had the freedom that CS had on Comedy Central...:gladbron:

And how many people that discovered Paul Mooney from CS know he was the one that created Homey the Clown?

You serious? In Living Color and it aint even close. The show pretty much introduced a slew of talented comedians, actors, classic skits and characters. I love Chapelle Show but it don't have the legs to stand up to ILC. Yall gotta chill and actually do some research. Like @YouRemindMe said everything in the hood shut down when ILC came on.

In Living Color didn't age well at all. I tried to rewatch some of it recently, and I couldn't stick with it. Overall it's more "influential", but nowadays it's a lot less funny.

Chappelle's show premiered over SIXTEEN years ago, and it still holds up.

I gotta go with ILC just because it was so influential and just think about how many careers it started. Don't misunderstand, Chappelle is top 3 DOA imo but ILC still funny as shyt to me with some sketches.

Better show Chapelle's Show
ILC birthed a ton of careers, but the sketches aren't as good as what Chapelle had. No disrespect, ILC a classic, but Chapelle was :ohlawd:
The Racial Draft, Prince, Rick James, Reparations, World Championship of Dice, Black Bush, Tyrone Biggums, Playa Hater's Ball, Clayton Bigsby, Making The Band, Tron Carter, Lil John, The nikkar Family, The Time Haters, Piss On You, Dylan, Dylan, Dylan, Dylan, and Dylan, the list goes on :wow:

not the same, I was around for both of them, watched first run ILC back in the 90s
IMO, ILC skits mostly rely on knowing what they are referencing vice the actual performance of the skit
That Jim Carrey / Reginald Denny skit is just not funny any more
of course the Homey the Clown stuff is still mostly funny
I'm sorry but the Wanda stuff is cringe right now
the big Chappelle skits are just funny no matter what they are talking about
ILC not having freedom because of FOX or Paul Mooney creating HTC is irrelevant to the actual funny skits
I'm not giving ILC a pass because of what could have been if they were on HBO
the top 10 skits of Chappelle > the top ILC skits

the top 10 skits of Chappelle > the top ILC skits
But again, that's EXACTLY the same for many Chappelle Show skits
Puffy telling nikkas to get Cambodian beast milk and shutting down the studio, Dylan Dylan Dylan ain't funny if you don't know what it's referencing
A bowler poplocking before rolling the ball, a baseball player dancing while running to first base not funny if you don't get what's it's referencing
Chappelle parodying 8 mile performace and saying "Spaghetti, spaghetti"
Tupac song describing current events in a club, funny in 2004, but there ain't been a new Pac song released in 13 years

Much of comedy sketch shows in general have always been based on events and pop culture going on at the time. But somehow Chappelle Show is immune to this effect according to stans:martin:

In Living Color used to kill me with the song remakes.
:pachaha:

"YOU DOWN WITH MSG??
HELL NO NOT MEEEEE!!!"
:russ:

I dont know.

When Dave dropped that Rick James joint I lost it.

Id probably have to go with In Living Color.
Mad moments with that show.

They're too different to compare and it's an unfair comparison. They're sketch shows that heavily/predominantly featured black people but that's about where the comparisons stop.

ILC was a snapshot into a time/era. Chappelle's Show at its best is about much more than that. It was about culture, race, interpersonal and societal nuances that are applicable in almost any time and era.

That would be like comparing Illmatic to Get Rich or Die Trying. To most they're both classics, and rightly so, but one can be enjoyed, and the other can be studied as well as enjoyed.
I disagree completely. lol at the shows being too different to compare. The shows are about as similar as you can get...

In Living Color could be "studied" just as much as Chappelle Show, if not more. They were way smarter about race than Chappelle was. They did a fukkin Reginald Denny skit lol. Farrakhan impersonations on prime time tv...much braver stuff than "The Nikkar Family"

Chappelle Show is probably funnier on average cuz it was only 2 seasons and the Rick James skit is the funniest skit of all time in my opinion. But I give the nod to ILC for having the GOAT cast and being more groundbreaking...

We're all entitled to our opinion, but I disagree with this vehemently.

How does ILC not age well? :what:

Also, I'm starting to hate the "age well" spiel. nikkas these days say everything didn't age well. People are becoming wayyyy too much 'in the moment' that everything considered 'old' they have to go back and dissect and act like it isn't hot anymore because it doesn't conform to what's in or standard these days.

Chapelle was starting to loose total creative control as well.

In Living Color also launched the careers of several actors.

It's like comparing apples to broccoli. :manny:

Chappelle's show holds up really well.

ILC hasn't aged well. The last 2 seasons it fell off hard. Also some ILC sketches were the level of a weak SNL sketch whereas Chappelle kept the quality level up consistently.

ILC definitely had its moments though.
