Was gone by '01.

And A.I. going #1 was very smart. He was a franchise player who won multiple scoring titles, first-team/second team all-nba awards, and a mvp award. Only thing he came short of doing was winning a ring.

Should still be a first ballot hall-of-famer.

The only player who turned out to be better in that '96 draft is fake Jordan.

No it wasn't because it's ridiculously hard to build around him. If you take Ray Allen, his game translates with anyone. But this is all hindsight.

That's easy to say when AI didn't have shaq or pau helping him out. And now Kobe needs Dwight and Steve too!? GTFO and show some respect to one of the goats :what:

:what: @ Iverson being one of the goats.

Iverson has always been overrated. Iverson was a no defense playing chucker. Who had a major attitude problem.

Are you forgetting how AI had Iggy looking? How he couldn't get past the first round with Melo, JR Smith, Kenyon Martin, Camby, Nene and company? They traded his no defensive playing ass a few months later they were in the WCF.

All while playing no defense and shooting below 40 percent. :beli:

Iverson won scoring titles, because he was shooting the ball more than anyone else in the league. As a scorer he was hardly impressive.

AI was fun to watch, but he was all flash, no substance.

First of all, dude was like 5'11 tops, only so much defense he could play. 2nd of all he didn't have nene, he was hurt that year..and you can't blame AI for the coaches not being able to make it work. And iggy. Back in 2005!?

The fact remains AI is one of the greatest scores ever, especially when you consider his size. If he played with shaq in his prime, he'd have a ring too.

Iverson was a TERRIBLE defender. Being short is no excuse. Is Chris Paul a liability on defense? Chris is nowhere close to the athlete that AI was.

Nene played in 07. :beli:

Iggy played a lot better once Iverson was traded. :beli:

Iverson wasn't a great scorer. His efficiency was terrible. He just put up a lot of shots.

He wouldn't have had a ring even if he played with Shaq. He was never anywhere near close to the player that Kobe was and the Lakers barely won in 2000 and 2002.

Having Shaq on your team isn't a title lock. How many rings did Shaq win with Penny and Eddie Jones/Van Excel?

Terrible is a strong exaggeration

Nene played 16 games in 07:beli:

Iggy just got more opportunities when AI left, and they still didn't do shyt.

Also, for you to Call him a chucker...makes me question if you watched him. You couldn't stop this dude from scoring in his prime. Also, his percentage isn't good because he HAD to shoot so much, because he was the go to guy. Most of the time the others he played with couldn't score worth a shyt. Look at Kobe last year, what was his percentage? Not so great because he had to do all the scoring, even if he had pau and Bynum , and AI damn sure never had them either.

they had consecutive sell outs for almost a decade with Iverson. Got to an NBA final, and he was NBA MVP.

I would say it was a great pick.

And Ray Allen? :aicmon:

Ray Allen had lost to Iverson in the ECF in 2001. Didnt consistently make the playoffs in Milwaukee or Seattle as the #1 guy, and yet some of you feel he should have been taken over AI? :aicmon:

:aicmon: was a chucker and inefficient, but he was a great player even with that.

The disrespect AI gets on here by white boys and little kids like the threadstarter is :wtf:. AI had shortcomings, but was a top 10 player for years. Period. Without having a crystal ball you could take the same group of players and have the draft in different years and AI would have been picked 1st everytime. He was that good in college, clearly better than 17 year old Kobe, and the only other dude in the conversation of being the first pick at the time was Camby. And he had a better career than 90% of that draft class, so .....:what:
