In Hindsight was taking AI number one overall THAT smart of a pick?

Well, let's see.

He was a better pick than:

  • Marcus Camby
    Abdur-Rahim
    Marbury
    Antoine Walker
    Kerry Kittles

Ray Allen was taken No. 5 -- personally, I'd rather Ray Allen.

And then Steve Nash was buried toward the middle of the first round. Although Nash has turned out to be a better overall player, it goes without saying that taking him No. 1 would be a HUGE reach.

In short: I'd take Ray Allen*.

*and Kobe

AI being a consensus #1 pic is one of the biggest fallacies ever. I remember when Philly won the draft lottery Pat Croce was pretty much set on picking AI.. Dumb pick, he was a SG in a PGs body.

Ray Allen would have been the better pick.

the kobe point can be debated.

ray allen :heh: ?

AI on the sixers punk'd those bucks squads.

If it were the other way around 'Iversons Bucks' would have punked a Ray Allen sixer squad.

....

not even going to mention the fame AI bought to the sixers franchise worldwide

:russ: I don't know how AI and Stackhouse didn't get into a fight when they were playing with each other. Stackhouse would always have the :scusthov: face when AI would ignore him and just have him standing in the corner  But, back to the subject, AI was the best fit imo Even though AI was selected to be a PG if I remember correctly, in hindsight they might have wanted to get Camby maybe? They had both Coleman and Weatherspoon, but Weatherspoon was a bit too short imo and would have been better suited to have him on the bench, I remember him being a really bad defender, so Camby might have been an ideal fit to have him with Coleman if he gave any fukks and with Stackhouse. :beli: but than the Sixers took Larry Hughes 2 years after even though they had AI already :rudy:

yes it was...

Kobe got lucky he had shaq to take the hit or his career could have ended by now..

before you kobe nut rider go in crazy Gawd fit  :childplease:.. i am not talking about skills but rather surviving the physical stress of leading a team FROM SCRATCH.

that's 7 years spared of him bumping against heavier opponents.

he needed better centers and PF around him..
