In the book Vito knew sonny wasnt the one when he spoke out of turn during the deal with the turk

Fredo was never forgiven for freezing up like a coward when the G's shot him down in the street. They purposely did not shoot fredo because they only wanted the father. Fredo froze up and went into a depression coma after his father was shot. He was never respected the same way again. Then he allowed Moe Green to beat him up and took sides against the family in favor of Moe when Michael came to Vegas to tell Moe that his business now belonged to the Corleones. He was just not worthy to run a demonic enterprise.

Michael didnt earn the respect of his fathers men until he wiped out all his fathers enemies.

In truth, they all knew Fredo was no fighter. It was really their fault that Vito was open like that at the market.

Al Pacino -- Hooo Ahhh!! GF Is Sheer Hotness

Read more: http://www.tmz.com/2014/08/27/al-pacino-lucila-sola-girlfriend-sheer-top-photo/#ixzz3BcR6fubr

Congratulations to Al Pacino's smoke show of a girlfriend -- she actually found a way to upstage the acting legend ... simply show off your ridiculous body in a see through top!

Pacino and Lucila Sola strolled through JFK airport Wednesday. The 35-year-old Argentinian actress has been dating 74-year-old Pacino for a couple years now.

Lucila made it blatantly obvious why Al was sporting a sly smile.

And ya just know the answer to the question we're all thinking is ... yes, she does.

Read the books. Micheal did'nt want anything to do with this family business. When Vito got shot that's when he realized he needed to be with and protect his family.

Sonny getting wet up just solidified it. Only then did he realize that he needed to fulfill his destiny.

It was actually even before that, I think, at least as I read it in the book. Once he came up with the plan to body Solozzo and the corrupt cop, they was looking at him differently. He was starting to carry himself like his pops and it was starting to become evident to everyone around him. They had looked at him as a young college kid, but when everything went down, he started to assume his role. Even Sonny joked about how it took the corrupt cop slugging him to bring him out into that world.

Wrong friend. After he became the leader of his fathers gang of demons his fathers right hand man was still calling him Michael. After he killed all his fathers enemies, he called him Godfather. They detailed the difference in the book very accurately.

Fredo was viewed as a weak idiot, even by his own father. He even talked about the disrespect to Michael in the film.

In reflection yeah Fredo was weak, a fukkboy, and not fit to lead but Sonny got to much of a pass in this. Everything that happened in the first film was because Sonny spoke out of turn and liked the proposal from the Turk Sollazzo during the sit-down meeting about starting up the drug business. Once that happened and the Turk saw that everybody loved the ideal except Vito so the next move was to have him killed. Sonny was a hothead type of fukkup. Fell for the bait to beat Carlo's ass and got merked before reaching home. I feel that Sonny, had he stayed alive and became the Godfather, would have fukked the family off just as fast if not worse than Fredo would have.

Plus I don't like the Vito flashbacks, and feel it interrupts the more interesting story.
this might be the worst thing i've read in years :heh:

Not really. but DeNiro is acting like brando acting as Vito, but younger. And he also didn't speak italian but learned it enough to speak his lines for this movie.

Personally, i think the story of showing how Vito became Vito is really compelling, and the scene building up to the death of Don Fanucci is great. And he's a great character himself. I love the old new york scenes

Above the fray.
Worst thread.

In the book and the film, he is shown to have panicked when the goons ran up on Don Vito. Had a gun but too shook to fire and fumbled it. Was crying when the paramedics came to pick up his father.

Opposite of having the makings of a leader of a crime organization.

BTW to the thread title; Fredo is passed up because he is careless. "Women and children can be careless but not men."

His carelessness carelessness got Vito shot.
His carelessness got michael shot at.
His carelessness exposed his lies to Michael in broad daylight.

I feel for Fredo, and almost get emotional at the lake tahoe scene which was basically him being excommunicated from the family...its gotta hurt to be Fredo. But he is barely fit to be a caporegime, let alone a boss.

It happens in 1 I think, and to be honest Michael just kind of takes the shyt. There's never any real talk with Fredo about it or anything. And if we're going to be really real about it all, Michael probably would have ended up killing Sonny if Tataglia hadn't.
:wtf:

Sonny was boss...
