Also, the bible. Why is the bible so heralded? Did God write the bible? Is Jesus supposed to be God's Son?
I BELIEVE IN GOD. But Im not sure about Jesus. I definetly dont believe in the Bible. Can someone sway me on why I should. Is Religion really sheeps of people following because they know no better? Im asking. I would be grateful if someone would educate me.
1. J was a Hebrew rabbi in the 1st Century AD which is during the Second Temple Period of Judea. 'Jesus' is a 'Romanization' of his real name which was Yeshua ben Yosef (Jesus, son of Josef) since there is no 'J' in Hebrew/Aramaic. It was a common name. He wasn't 'White' and didn't have blonde hair and blue eyes. He would have looked more like Osama bin Laden.
2. People 'praise' him because he stood up to the leading Hebrew religious order, the Pharisees, who were kowtowing to the Romans rather than assisting their own people. The Romans had occupied Judea like the Isrealis are occupying Palestine, to give you an example. In return for his effrontery towards that particular sect of Hebrews, he was summarily executed by the Roman official, Pontius Pilate.
3. The actual evidence of his existence is through literature (Biblical and Non-Biblical) that references him. This is how ALL historic figures from antiquity are proven to have existed barring any other archaeological findings.
4. The Bible is 'heralded' because it contains the most accurate portrayals of ancient life, beliefs, economy, history, geography, etc., as they understood it at the time.
5. Men wrote the Bible. Hebrew scribes first penned the stories as they were exiled from Babylon since they thought they would all die and their people would be forgotten by time. They didn't perish, though, and the stories continued. They were then re-written by Roman/Greek converts to preserve them.
6. 'J' is called the 'Son of God' which is a title, not a denotation of his parental lineage.
7. It isn't necessary to 'believe' in the Bible, but you would be wise to research exactly what it is and what it contains.
8. Religion is not 'sheeps of people following because they don't know any better'. Religion is nothing more than another word for 'group'. Groups stay together because they share common beliefs/practices/goals. The
Big Bang Theory was created by a Catholic Priest and most scientific discoveries of any importance were found by people who believe(d) in a 'G-d'.
Personally, 'G-d' is an ambiguous word that doesn't mean anything, but I find history fascinating. If you believe in 'G-d', knock yourself out and don't get bogged down by joining any particular 'religion'. Look into as many of them as you can and come to your own conclusion as to what 'G-d' is or isn't.
