Since @Yuzo was dropping serious knowledge in here, it made me remember Lampley talking with Hopkins about his work in Ring magazine teaching the technical side, during the Kovalev-Pascal fight.

Hopkins giving video tutorials. :leon:

We may need a boxing tutorial thread here brehs., with the more knowledgeable cats breaking stuff down and using gif's/videos like above. :lupe:

Great idea @patscorpio

No doubt, the Pull Counter is a fukking thing of beauty, there is in fact a way to counter it. When Floyd fought Maidana the second time in the third round, he landed his famous pull counter with no problems; but at the end of the round, when he tried it again, Maidana was able to find a way to counter that by simply pressing forward, pumping his jab out and keeping his head down lower than Floyd's so that he can avoid the pull counter, but also land his counter as well.

Video:

When you slow it down and see the form and execution, it's basically how Marquez caught Pacquiao, the difference being that Floyd was backing up instead of rushing in, and vice versa with Maidana moving forward. It's not easy, but it can be done. If Manny wants to try this against Floyd, I would advise the following:

  • Study how Marquez caught you
  • Back Floyd up just like Maidana did
  • With your comparably parallel hand speed, find a way to time it and not only land, but land flush and hard enough to give Floyd his own second thoughts before throwing that pull counter again
Just a minor observation. :manny:

Excellent points. I would like to add that Floyd needs to be careful when ducking vs. Pac. For instance, Floyd has different types of defenses that he uses, and when he uses the "duck first" defense he will duck right into Pac's left hand, that short quick punch that Pac loves to use for the introduction to the bushes. Also when jabbing to the body vs. southpaws, Floyd reaches head first and can get caught with a quick low right hook, I think that's the shot that Zab may have dropped him with, I don't remember. Also we all know vs. southpaws he like to use lead rights with a duck directly after a punch, those lead rights may work with Manny but he has to be wary of ducking if that right doesn't land because Manny's punching angles and volume will be waiting for that ass whilst rising up from those ducks. I think ducking vs. Manny will be a mistake and due to Manny's size, it's uneccessary.

For some reason I feel May will use the same exact approach he used for Shane (high guard, toe to toe) or Ortiz where he came out aggressive with lead rights, bhoth fights where he came out looking for KOs and avoiding them at the same time, no boxing, just fighting.

Look for Floyd to set Pac up for overhand rights. We know Mayweather throws straight shots but he also mixes his attacks up well to the head & body. I'm also expecting Floyd to work Pac's body this fight. Pac's probably gonna take more clean shots this fight than he has in any other fight.

Yup!

And as we know, Manny has developed his right hand, specifically, the counter right hook, into an almost equally dangerous weapon as his famous left cross:

Can't find the GIF, but in Round 5 of their fourth fight, Pacquiao stunned Marquez badly with a short right hook as well, and may have been the punch that broke JMM's nose.

Ring been fire lately :mjcry: Quality posts everywhere outside that Floyd/Pac thread :mjcry:

Yup I can see Pac luring Floyd into a left hand with that struggle/sneaky jab he loves to use and catch Floyd trying to come in over the top. There's a gang of ways this fight could go man :lupe:

I remember watching this live. It was THE fastest 2 piece I've ever saw. RJ wasn't human at around this time

Focus on the ref in that gif, it looks like he is in slow motion and Roy is in FFWDx8 :dead:
