So is there a cultural difference between PG and MOCO (Montgomery County).

Mo county's "Black" population is predominately African immigrants, particularly Ethiopians. And the population of MOCO as a whole is alot Whiter/Non-Black than DC/PG.

So yes. There's a significant cultural difference between MOCO and PG & DC.

Lol yeah it’s all about access. NW nikkas got more convenient access to the luxury shyt in Georgetown and Friendship Heights, mainstream stuff in Columbia Heights, and the more local boutiques around Georgia Ave and U Street. SE nikkas either go to PG Mall or Iverson Mall in Maryland or hit up either Union Station or Metro Center downtown to cop their gear since they’re all in close proximity to the Soufside. If you wanna cop some really clean fresh shyt, nikkas go into VA to hit up Pentagon City or Tyson’s or head down to Tanger Outlets by National Harbor in PG.

Eastside Bmore dress code sounds like a mixture of New Orleans and 90’s deep Brooklyn.

What’s the dress code like with South Bmore/Down The Hill nikkas?
I’m talking moreso 90s early 2000s. After that everybody pretty much started dressing the same. Down the Hill is the east side tho. South Baltimore is Cherry Hill, Westport, Brooklyn, and Curtis Bay. That’s the grimiest of the grimey. You might catch whiteboys out Brooklyn still rocking South Pole and shyt

Why y’all police still wildin even with such a large middle class Black population?

It’s crazy cuz PGPD wasn’t always like this, at least towards local residents tho. They used to prey heavily (and still do) on drivers with OT plates but nowadays, ever since PGPD has seen a growing influx on Cac officers they’ve been getting more gully with the shyts :mjpls: It used to be mostly Black like MPD in DC and a lot of nikkas had family members and friends who were cops and some of them even let them get away with certain shyt. That type of leniency ended in the 2000’s tho and both PG and DC have been recruiting OT cops and DAs to buildup their personnel force and restructure the local PD culture. So unfortunately, we’re currently not blessed like Detroit where they have a predominantly Black police force that don’t really go around harassing the people they protect and serve and look like them.

Never thought I’d say this but I found Salisbury and Fruitland PD over on the Eastern Shore more cordial than PGPD :francis:

So anyone who says they from ____ County or DMV aint from dc right?

If they’re from the county they claim, most likely they are. If they say DMV, high chance they’re not actually from DC itself which is why they’re saying DMV to give OTers an idea of their hometown since people may not know where or what a Woodbridge, Rockville, Bladensburg, Indian Head, Centreville, Wheaton, Clinton, Waldorf, etc. is.

Yes. PG actually used to be predominantly white and went through a form of (reverse?) gentrification where blacks moved in and whites moved out. The downside is the county is also run by corrupt blacks who mismanage all the county funds and get jailed as a result. We gotta do better. :mjcry:

I can’t even front, that whole Jack Johnson shyt back in 2010 was lowkey embarrassing asf :snoop:

This reminds me of how East and west Baltimore used to be. Over east nikkas were considered grimier compared to the over west cats. But that was all about dress code. We were known for wearing that army surplus gear. Fatigues and Carhatts and shyt. Jean shorts over sweat pants. The west side dudes stayed fresh in Polo, Nautica, Hilfiger, etc. Even Iceberg and Avirex. But come to find out there were more hustlers over there where on the east side nikkas just sold drugs.

You might meet a chick from over west and she found out you were from over east and it was
:scusthov:

Even tho they only lived 6 miles away :heh:

Plus those west side nikkas had more access to clothes with Mondawmin Mall being right in the middle and Security Mall being close. I have family on the west side that stayed fresh so I was trying to be like them

Northeast Baltimore nikkaz got Towson, White Marsh

DDH got monument street and...... East point Mall :troll:

do y'all look down on people from Charles County

i know a girl from waldorf and all my pg friends crack on her

A lot of us like to joan on Charles County people but I think it’s mainly because we view Charles County as being too far and outside of the Waldorf area, it’s country asf down there and has a lot of redneck Cacs. A lot of the older Cacs down there were the ones who originally fled PG County back in the ‘70s and ‘80s when it was getting Blacker.

Personally tho, I don’t really have anything against Chuck County. I do think it can be boring down there outside of Waldorf and certain recreation activities like fishing, swimming or boating in the Bay, golfing, gun range, etc. Also, Charles County got some good ass seafood and BBQ and you can go to the cut in Leonardtown and get a nice sized bushel of freshly caught crabs directly from the catchers themselves for good prices. Plus, one of my most favorite seafood restaurants in Maryland is down there, Captain Billy’s. Almost every DC, PG, and Waldorf nikka had to have gone to Capt. Billy’s at least once in their lifetime. It’s in Newburg and it’s on the water overlooking the Bay and the King George County side of VA.

It’s a lot of Black people in Waldorf/Northern Charles County and a good number of them are originally PG residents who decided to relocate to either escape the crime rate, live in a better school district, have better appreciation of home value, cheaper cost of living, deal with less urban issues, have access to better retail and dining options, and/or originally to no longer deal with traffic congestion (Rt. 5 traffic in Charles County has started to get heavy just north of La Plata nowadays).

Basically, a lot of the youth in Waldorf/Northern Chuck County are just a generation or two removed from PG and they share the same things as us PG folk such as fashion, slang, accent, music, carryout culture, appreciation of mumbo sauce, etc. So I have no problem with Waldorf and Charles County nikkas claiming the DMV, plus Waldorf is literally at least 30 mins from the nearest Metro station (Branch Ave) and have shuttle buses that’ll take you to one of those Kiss & Ride bus stops in Clinton near the McDonalds. I know this personally because I live in Brandywine just 5 miles up the street in PG from Waldorf and I do a lot of my shopping and some dining in Da ‘Dorf and my best friend and her family (who used to live in PG til 2011) lives in Newburg and I visit her often whenever I’m home from school. As far as I’m concerned, Waldorf/Northern CC is a PG colony as I like to say half-jokingly and ‘Dorf nikkas are pretty much just a more country version of PG nikkas :yeshrug:

Waldorf is predominately Black and a growing chunk of Northern CC is trending that way. Hopefully more Black folks can develop a strong presence and push further south towards La Plata. It’ll be nice to have the countryside on lock along the Rt. 5 corridor while we try to maintain a presence in DC and hold on to PG and southern MoCo as long as we possibly can.

Correct.

Through the 90's/early 2000's this WAS the case...because practically all the black folks in PG originally came from DC (excluding African/Carribean immigrants of course).

Therefore, their entire "culture" slang, accent, style of dress etc. in PG, is DC's. PG county really has no independent culture or identity...it's a DC ex-pat settlement for DC natives with money.

But i have noticed the younger generation that grew up exclusively in PG, claim their county with alot more pride than when i was coming up...and don't give a fukk about claiming DC at all.

Pretty much this. And I think the most significant thing DC copped from PG was GoGo music since not many people really know that GoGo actually has its origins in Fairmount Heights, which is one of the first all-Black suburban settlements after the Civil War last I checked and it’s where Chuck Brown and his family stayed at when they moved up here from NC and he went to school there. Fairmount Heights did saw a gradual increase in crime later in the 20th century especially thanks to the nationwide drug epidemic at the time. Fairmount Heights residents originally started a petition to rename one of their local parks after Chuck Brown, this was back in like 2016 or earlier I think, don’t know if it’s gained more traction since.

Yea but we had to travel to those malls. Some west side nikkas can walk to mondawmin. I stayed up Towson and Golden Ring tho

Eastpoint :dead:

I honestly forgot all about Golden Ring. Didn't they tear it down and turned it into a shopping center like they did Westview?

My nikka went to Iverson Mall Lol I would say PG Mall (Hyattsville), Bowie Town Center, and Tanger Outlets near National Harbor is as good as you’re gonna get as far as PG malls are concerned. Forestville Mall can be just as ghetto as Iverson Mall but it got a slightly better selection of stores and it got a couple of good food spots too like the bakery that sells snickerdoodles (second only to Iverson Mall’s) and the Chinese spot that be serving them big ass fried wings with mumbo sauce and potato wedges. There used to be an video game arcade in Forestville Mall back in the day but it later became a Jerry’s Pizza. Now it’s a whole barbershop, they got some good cuts too. Beltway Plaza in Greenbelt is okay but it’s not as good as it used to be back when Jeepers was around. A lot of PG’s old malls are extinct, most notably Landover Mall (R.I.P.). Thankfully Iverson Mall is getting a makeover, so it should still be around for a long while. They’ve recently put in a Wing Stop, Tropical Smoothie, and Chipotle outside of it where the Bojangles is. The plans for the mall’s interior and exterior look sweet asf, it’ll be interesting to see what the final product will look like. I’m just glad that they’re gonna keep the bakery that sells the original snickerdoodles as well as that pizza shop that I loved as a kid I’m lowkey happy it’s happening because I remember the days when Iverson Mall used to be poppin like shyt. Weekend afternoons and nights at that mall back in the late ‘90s used to look like an entertainment district or some shyt lol.

They have 5 shoe stores and 4 bootleg clothing shops and the Last Stop where it feels like the employees harass you. Only go there for a slice of pizza and some cookies now

I had no clue Chuck was from Fairmont Heights :ohhh:

Always thought he was from Uptown...as i'm sure you probably know, we already have a "Chuck Brown Way" in Uptown.

Yeah, Fairmont Heights is one of the only places in PG that was predomiately Black pre-80's...along with Kentland, Landover and Palmer Park.
