A lot of us like to joan on Charles County people but I think it’s mainly because we view Charles County as being too far and outside of the Waldorf area, it’s country asf down there and has a lot of redneck Cacs. A lot of the older Cacs down there were the ones who originally fled PG County back in the ‘70s and ‘80s when it was getting Blacker.

Personally tho, I don’t really have anything against Chuck County. I do think it can be boring down there outside of Waldorf and certain recreation activities like fishing, swimming or boating in the Bay, golfing, gun range, etc. Also, Charles County got some good ass seafood and BBQ and you can go to the cut in Leonardtown and get a nice sized bushel of freshly caught crabs directly from the catchers themselves for good prices. Plus, one of my most favorite seafood restaurants in Maryland is down there, Captain Billy’s. Almost every DC, PG, and Waldorf nikka had to have gone to Capt. Billy’s at least once in their lifetime. It’s in Newburg and it’s on the water overlooking the Bay and the King George County side of VA.

It’s a lot of Black people in Waldorf/Northern Charles County and a good number of them are originally PG residents who decided to relocate to either escape the crime rate, live in a better school district, have better appreciation of home value, cheaper cost of living, deal with less urban issues, have access to better retail and dining options, and/or originally to no longer deal with traffic congestion (Rt. 5 traffic in Charles County has started to get heavy just north of La Plata nowadays).

Basically, a lot of the youth in Waldorf/Northern Chuck County are just a generation or two removed from PG and they share the same things as us PG folk such as fashion, slang, accent, music, carryout culture, appreciation of mumbo sauce, etc. So I have no problem with Waldorf and Charles County nikkas claiming the DMV, plus Waldorf is literally at least 30 mins from the nearest Metro station (Branch Ave) and have shuttle buses that’ll take you to one of those Kiss & Ride bus stops in Clinton near the McDonalds. I know this personally because I live in Brandywine just 5 miles up the street in PG from Waldorf and I do a lot of my shopping and some dining in Da ‘Dorf and my best friend and her family (who used to live in PG til 2011) lives in Newburg and I visit her often whenever I’m home from school. As far as I’m concerned, Waldorf/Northern CC is a PG colony as I like to say half-jokingly and ‘Dorf nikkas are pretty much just a more country version of PG nikkas :yeshrug:

Waldorf is predominately Black and a growing chunk of Northern CC is trending that way. Hopefully more Black folks can develop a strong presence and push further south towards La Plata. It’ll be nice to have the countryside on lock along the Rt. 5 corridor while we try to maintain a presence in DC and hold on to PG and southern MoCo as long as we possibly can.

Preciate it

I’ve been reading that Charles county is majority black now

ATL, but rasied in DMV
Pretty much this. And I think the most significant thing DC copped from PG was GoGo music since not many people really know that GoGo actually has its origins in Fairmount Heights, which is one of the first all-Black suburban settlements after the Civil War last I checked and it’s where Chuck Brown and his family stayed at when they moved up here from NC and he went to school there. Fairmount Heights did saw a gradual increase in crime later in the 20th century especially thanks to the nationwide drug epidemic at the time. Fairmount Heights residents originally started a petition to rename one of their local parks after Chuck Brown, this was back in like 2016 or earlier I think, don’t know if it’s gained more traction since.
This is some heavy info and most of it is right. But Fairmont Heights is the second all Black settlement in PG, behind North Brentwood, which was the first in PG and MD, and possibly the whole U.S.

I remember Chuck Browns first hit "We the People" in 72'. Rumor has it he was staying in Palmer Park sometime in the 70's. After reading what you provided, he may have stayed in Fairmont Heights first, even though I thought he lived in DC after his family moved from NC. I was no big fan of go go, because it was deemed young knuckle-head music for a while after it hit the scene in the very late 70's. I was still hooked on George Clinton and the Parliament Funkadelics, along with the rest of the funk mob. As far as go-go, although Chuck Brown created that beat, I remember it being Big Tony and Trouble Funk who stole from Chuck around 78', and added there own style of music to the beat. But they didn't call it go-go back then. However we use to call house parties go-go's around 78', as a street term. Actually, go-go was the term young White's in the very early 60's use to call their high school dances and beach parties, like in those Franky Avalon, and Patty Duke beach movies in the early 60's. You hardly saw Blacks on TV back then, other than Bill Cosby and Sidney Poitier.

Anyway, before they settled on calling the beat go-go, it went from the DC Beat, the DC Grove, then finally Chuck reclaimed it with go-go...just going from how I remembered it. But he really like performing jazz...that was his heart, and his age group. My biggest memories of the go-go beat (not talking about Chuck Brown and the Soul Searchers) was watching Trouble Funk perform terribly at Parkdale High night dances in 79', where all the Palmer Park students, including Sugar Ray Leonard, went to high school. Then they moved up to playing at the Club Lebaron in Palmer Park, then to the Capital Center, now known as the US Air Arena. They still sounded terrible all through this, but today technology changed all that. Personally I don't remember go-go starting in Fairmonts Heights, however Chuck Brown may have developed the beat there along the time he formed "Chuck Brown and the Soul Searchers". But then again, it's very possible the first go-go performance actually was in Fairmont Heights.

As for Trouble Funk, Rare Essence, and Experience Unlimited (The Battle of the Bands), they started of playing punk music, trying to find the right beat to get people to dance. I remember very early members of Experience Unlimited use to practice in peoples basements in North Brentwood, and in that small southern part of Hyattsville, which was cut off from the arts district. I'm sure they practiced in other Black parts of PG County too, which was very few back then, other than parts along the DC border, or Landover. This was in the early 70's. Anyway, like I said, they started following where Chuck played, and stole his beat.

I use to live next door to somebody who use to let the early members of Experience Unlimited practice in their basement, talking about sounding terrible. He use to practice with them, but they pretty much used him for a place to practice. If it weren't the hood, somebody would have called the cops with all that racket...lol. They was playing shyt you wouldn't even hear on the radio. But there was one song they did get right, and a song everybody heard before, although it played on White radio stations only. And that was the Doobie Brothers, "Love Train Running". Most people probably think the name of the song is "Without Love", like I always did, because they chant that throughout the song.

Now this was some info that 99% of go-go fans, MD and DC, probably never knew, unless they were practicing musicians themselves back in the early 70's.

Looks like Chuck wounded up using bands like Trouble Funk, Experience Unlimited, and Rare Essence, who combined punk with his beat, and learned to combine jazz with his beat. That seemed to put the icing on the cake, as far as go-go.

I’ve been reading that Charles county is majority black now

That’s the dope as hell if that’s the case. Charles County was 41% Black and 52% Cac back in 2010, it’ll be nice to see how Black it is come the 2020 census. Maryland would have not one, but two Chocolate Counties :blessed::blessed:

Bmore nikkas should work on getting Baltimore County majority Black  Let’s take over this state Maryland brehs.

That strip down 301 where they build all them housing developments and Everything around Waldorf/White Plains/St. Charles been slowly filling up with Blacks who were fleeing the immediate areas surrounding DC,sacrificing the drive from Narnia to work, and military/gov't workers who wanted cheaper housing been filling it up for the last 10-15 years.

What's the difference from NE and SW nikkas then?

How many goods are in PG? Are 57th mattapony and 103 hardbody a thing?

Northeast nikkas tend to be the most quintessential DC nikkas of all DC nikkas. They’re like a balance between Uptown and the Soufside and they arguably rep DC harder than anybody else and they be loud with it. Like if an NE dude cops a Helly or an Eat shirt or Solbiato or whatever, he’s gonna rock a whole Helly jumpsuit or be decked out in Eat apparel like an Eat bucket hat with an Eat jacket and find some exclusive shoes to compliment the fit or hoodie or rocking a full Solbiato outfit from head to toe. They can get almost as fly as Northwest/Uptown nikkas frfr, sometimes they can go a lil overboard with the dress too lol. But Northeast being as big as it is, the NE nikkas that be closer to the border with the Soufside like Lincoln Heights, Deanwood, Mayfair, Eastland Gardens, etc. tend to reflect the more chill and laid-back mood and dress code of SE nikkas. Overall tho, NE nikkas take a lot of pride in being from DC.

Southwest nikkas nowadays are pretty much similar to SE nikkas but more lowkey. Back in the day tho, SW nikkas used to be the biggest trendsetters in the DMV after NW/Uptown nikkas. SW nikkas used to be rocking a lot of colorful shyt like different colored snapbacks and baseball hats and multicolored Steep Tech hoodies and jackets on some bright ass late 2000’s/early 2010’s kinda shyt lol. They used to be on their own shyt but now, they pretty much dress just like everybody else in DC. Back then, SW nikkas were like the fly versions of SE nikkas but they were still grimy when they wanted to be...After all, SW is the same quandrant Wayne Perry is originally from, hell it’s been rumored that he used to stay at Wingate. Nowadays, Southwest isn’t as flashy, fast money as it once was and is kinda Staten Island (the “forgotten borough”) status compared to the other quadrants of DC but it can still get turnt around there.

It’s gotta be like 30-40-something+ hoods in PG, most of whom are inside the Beltway. And yeah, those two are still active especially 57th.

I haven’t truly visited Richmond since 2000 but I do remember it being kind of a boring city. It’s still that way?
I guess you can find some cool places if you really really look. But I didnt see much in Richmond except depressing poverty. It is tough to see black ppl going thru it man.:to:.
The historic places also tend to be about some confederate fakkit.

Depends on where in Oxon Hill you are since it’s a large area. National Harbor has always been nice and is generally safe outside of a few occasions of fukkery like that time nikkas were riding through NH on dirt bikes and this other time where somebody got shot at one of the restaurants there (can’t remember if dude lived or not). The parts of Oxon Hill bordering Glassmanor/Southview and Eastover be hood, along with the parts along St. Barnabas Rd heading into Temple Hills, and the area where Rivertowne Shopping Center is no stranger to ratchetry even though it was worse back in the day. I think people use 210 as the boundary between the safe spots of Oxon Hill and the turnt spots. IMO, OH isn’t as grimy as Suitland or Temple Hills but it’s no Bowie neither.

O ok I rock with NH it’s a cool vibe out there. You got the waterfront n restaurants the outlets n MGM. Close enough to Uber to DC if you wanna make that move. It’s like a spot u bring wifey book a room at the gaylord when u got a 3 day weekend

It’s about to get even more lit once the Top Golf near the Montessori school is finished this year. They’ll be adding a Walmart near it too.

PG x MD
I recall this crazy beef going on between a PG rapper and a DC rapper, the DC rapper was doing a diss track on the PG dude’s fallen homie (DC dude was part of the crew that got holmes I think) and did a music video on dude’s grave. Couple of days later, that DC rapper got caught slippin and the rest is history :francis:

RIP to OG Man Man but if you think shyt’s sweet because it’s the suburbs, you’re gonna get caught slippin eventually :yeshrug:
You're talking about that stupid ass Big Flock vs Og Man Man shyt. The beef wasn't between any hoods or nothing. It was strictly personal between Flock and ManMan. They were friends at one point then some bullshyt happened over a chick or ManMan did some grimey shyt and Flock dissed him on a song.

Flock's homie Lil Chris (aka C Diddy) wasn't killed by nobody in DC. The shyt was a complete domestic situation from nikkas he knew. He didn't even die in MD or DC it happened in Richmond. He was on his way to Hampton where he went to school. Idk if nikkas were drunk or whatever happened but somehow an argument happened. nikkas stopped the car and he "fell" off the bridge.

And OG Man Man's death had nothing to do with Big Flock. Big Flock isn't built like that. Not saying he a bytch or anything but that ain't really his pedigree. Man Man was from Simple City and involved in all types of street shyt. The rumor is it was somebody from his own hood. He was a grimey nikka that used to rob and set up his own people.

Yes. PG actually used to be predominantly white and went through a form of (reverse?) gentrification where blacks moved in and whites moved out. The downside is the county is also run by corrupt blacks who mismanage all the county funds and get jailed as a result. We gotta do better. :mjcry:
