I type fast as well. Three minutes is still too long to try to explain someone who obviously tries to troll bait for attention. If there was a respectable poster on here that puts up this argument, I would never have a problem with trying to put up a rebuttal, nor would most other reasonable posters. When it's someone who is obviously trying to bait people for attention, they do not deserve a real response. Simple as that.

What is there to rebut? To the OP the lyrics are incoherent and often don't make sense. To me they make perfect sense. The OP writes "trash" after lines that are universally heralded as gems. Just because he writes "trash" that doesn't lend any legitimacy to his claim. To me - he hasn't provided a single valid criticism of the lyrics.

But again - thus isn't a serious thread.

He definitely trolls you guys a bit and is even doing it here, but I'm just pointing out that the substance of what he's getting at has been ignored for years. As someone who didn't necessarily agree with him, and who didn't post in the Spot that much, I didn't really care but it's just something I noticed. It's been years and I see that no one actually shuts down his argument or offers an alternative. I mean there's a book about Illmatic, it shouldn't be that hard.

Before he wrote "trash" he was straight up pointing out how the lines were not coherent in his eyes, you saying that they make perfect sense isn't an argument. I just broke down a few posts ago the substance of what he's said for years, if you're not capable of combatting his point then just say so. You're all honestly making him look good.

I agree with a lot of this. But outside off monkey rhythm and a few other lines, ny state of.mind connected and made sense. You said nas calling his body a physicall frame was dumb but I bet you like pacs physical form line. And also how does "the mind activation reacts like I'm facing time like pappy mason with pens I'm embracing" not make sense? That's one of the better lines on the album.

Again - I don't know how to respond to that. Saying something is incoherent doesn't make it incoherent.

I do see your point about "the substance" and I raised most of them in my earlier replies. It's like I said - he prefers rappers who aren't in the least bit abstract - who are straight forward and very linear. This has nothing to do with lyricism - its a style preference.
