Quantum physics basically explains how a universe can appear out of quantum states in a vacuum. This universe is probably just one of 10^500 states.

There’s no place in modern science for the celestial overlord crafting the universe. A “god” would only be the creator of the quantum vacuum, and that’s not anywhere close to what religions have been calling god.

So at this point in human knowledge, our cosmology has surpassed the explanations of religious folk.

I'm very spiritual. But I don't think atheism precludes not wanting shyt to hit the fan in a society you have to live in.

with all thats been said, I do have compassion for human beings that are so distraught that they're dependent upon non existent entities to help get them through the day

How is always pointing out how religion is bullshyt gonna help anybody?

Or is it simply just about appearing smarter than everyone else,

Is it the way the people make it to be always there for us to have there and maybe not be the one to place it in the other one for the reason of there being none to see and make it not everywhere as well as in the other one that maybe we place in another way to see how it comes from another person and if so what is the way to know how we have to see it and another? i don't think non belief in God and being a virtuous person go hand and hand. in fact, i believe the idea that we must be benevolent stems from the idea that higher authority spans thru out multiple parts of our life (and we consider our personal places in that order) and that in order to have things function with less strife, those with a "sense" of higher purpose must act on that feeling to organize and structure...

but that's just random thoughts after reading what people have been posting...
