Atheism is simply not accepting the claim that theists make because of the lack of evidence. It's not a social group. Atheists are not required to do anything, much like the rest of humanity.

It's like asking what a bald guy is doing for the hair loss community.

That's not to say there are not secular humanists that are working to better society. Here in Texas we have several atheists activists that feed and house the homeless. We don't make the poor listen to a sermon before giving them their sandwich.
