It's no coincidence that the only major sport that isn't black dominated (baseball) also has the strongest players association and collective bargaining agreement.
So any black person working at a job thats run by/where the white man is the OWNER?
Parallels?
Well shyt in that case there are parallels between driving a car and piloting a rocket ship.
Parallels between banging Tika Sumpter and jacking off.
shyt man there's parallels between being a triple black belt and being a white belt.
Parllels...
Fixed.
Be intellectually dishonest brehs.
If you don't agree with whats been said then what is your counterpoint? Speak on it.
I clearly stated out of slavery came this class system we live under now. Everywhere you look black people are in the working/poor class, it's not just in sports. Dudes in here really so naive to think that just because they are making millions thats all that matters?!?! We see all the time how black people can still get fined, censored, demonized, vilified, straight up fired, etc... just for "being black". The reality is that ownership = control. White folks came out of the slavery era and realized they didn't have to deprive blacks of their freedom to keep winning the game, they just had to maintain control thru ownership of the resources/businesses.
Now i've voiced the parallels i see twice in this thread, either you gonna agree or disagree breh.
I already spoke on it. You just missed the point, so I'll be blunt. One can draw parallels between any two things that are even remotely related. The term "I can draw parallels" is used when people are trying to demonstrate who alike two things are. Except in this case (and in the cases I highlighted) they really aren't.
This really wasn't that hard to figure out.
Let's make it easy... how many non-slaves would have willingly traded places with slaves?
Now, for reference, how many non-professional athletes would willingly trade places with professional athletes?
Parallels my ass.
I wouldn't ever use the term "drawing parallels" in cases of simple similarities so your earlier examples don't hold any weight. I agree that "drawing parallels" is in fact used when wanting to show how alike things are with either multiple similarities and/or a deepness in their connections. Which is why i explained how i see the roles of whites controlling blacks and wealth distribution under slavery and under sports today in 2016 are similar. Not only that but also how one system of control(slavery) directly birthed the system of control we all live under now(class, capitalism, white supremacy).
I'm not trying to argue how wildly different slavery is from sports nor am i trying to call them the same(and i didn't get that out of what the OP initially wrote although he used alot of analogies to slavery that might have rethought). Any fool knows they aren't the same from a standpoint of methodology. I also am not arguing which was worse as we all know slavery was the worst of the two systems so let's quit trying to move the goalposts. Slavery was a means to an end... Its the bigger aspects of control and wealth that most ppl see the similarities on.
The average American earns 1M in about 20 years. Most of these athletes are dead broke within 2 years of leaving the league. Everyone isn't Lebron. Outside of baseball, an 18-year career with a pension isn't the norm.
Wasn't baseball the most popular sport for the majority of modern American history? It's no coincidence that the only major sport that isn't black dominated (baseball) also has the strongest players association and collective bargaining agreement.
My thoughts exactly. The NFL is the WORST example of this. These dudes are LITERALLY being auctioned off to the highest bidder.
