Floyd was self made ever since the Gatti beatdown. His resume in the lightweight divisions pretty much had him a HOF lock regardless. Beating DLH easily at 154 (

Just by reading this thread you can see that there's only a few real boxing fans in here. Most cats are just fans of fighters (Floyd and Manny) There's no reason to put one down to bring one up. Both didn't blow up to superstar level until they defeated Oscar. They consistently put on good performances beforehand so they were already stars just not on that Oscar, Roy Jones, Tyson, etc.. level.
That's kind of the reason why they were able to go to the next level after those Oscar fights. Just because you beat a superstar doesn't mean you'll become one. Floyd and Manny were already as big as they were going to be before the Oscar fights. That fight along with the 24/7's just put them over the threshold plain and simple.
No fighter is bigger than the sport of boxing. Fighters don't carry boxing. Fights carry boxing. Think about it this way. How often does the biggest name in boxing have the FOTY. Rarely happens. When was the last time you saw Floyd in a fight that was FOTY worthy (and don't give me the Cotto fight) Same thing with Manny (prolly the 1st Morales fight but that was years ago) Exactly. Fights like Gatti/Ward, Corrales/Castillo, Vasquez/ R.Marquez are what keeps boxing alive, not 2 superstar nikkas in the same weight class p*ssy footing around trying not to fight each other.
