If Jay Z’s catalog got deleted today, Hip Hop would be the same and nothing is gonna change

Jay is from an era where clones didn't blow up. That is why it is laughable that people use "clones" as the end all/be all of influence. Bathgate, Angelous, and ROC were all Jay Z clones. They never blew up beyond mixtapes and guest spots. Nobody was interested in hearing a Jay Z clone that wasn't as good as Jay Z. This generation is different. You will accept and even say the clone is as good if not better than the original.

Bruh... sometimes I want a Good clone....

You know how much I would appreciate a Good "fahrenheit 1/15 / food and liquor" Era Lupe fiasco?

Or a good Nipsey Hussle clone?

Nowhere to be seen...I'm stuck listening to the Old shyt.

Jay legacy not aged well. He not musically progressive never was, never set trends or pushed shyt. Forced RD into classic discourse when that wasn't what was accepted contemporary times. Just rode waves, linked up wit major collabs. People woke up bout it. On pure rap tip he all time but his catalog already holdin up bad wit Gen Z they stay clownin and wonderin bout his legacy on Tiktok. If he get caught up in any other shyt it only get worse too

Look at his most streamed songs

Umbrella - Rihanna
nikkas In Paris - Ye
Crazy In Love - Beyonce
Empire State - Alicia
Numb / Encore - Linkin Park
Drunk In Love - Beyonce (written by Future)
Run This Town - Ye and Rihanna
No Church In The Wild - Ye and Frank
Monster - Bunch of nikkas on a Ye classic
Holy Grail - Timberlake
Pound Cake - Aubrey
Otis - Ye
Suit & Tie - Timberlake
Big Pimpin - UGK
03 Bonnie Clyde - Beyonce
Gotta Have It - Ye

Then you start gettin to solo Jay shyt that don't already got a superstar on it like 99 Problems, Hard Knock Life, Izzo, Dirt Off, PSA.

Even then look at Jay top 50 most streamed song 90% of em got another monster artist on there and trend of Jay most listened to song suggest he footnote or just there for most em. He not the main reason people bumpin em.

Jay was Drake before Drake. :gurl:

Those songs are not even his best he’s made. Mainstream Jay is weak and not potent like his B-Sides. If anyone is familiar with his catalog they would know he’s got way better music than those that charted.

This is actually making his point.

”Mainstream“ music is the kind that “changes“ stuff.

Jay never had a year where he was number 1 in rap. He was never the guy.

Triple H of rap. So it makes sense why someone would feel this way.

Jay Z historically is an in-the-moment, what’s going on right now rapper. Hold that thought.

(And really - isn’t that what Hip-Hop is supposed to be? “What’s really happening right now?”
so can we really knock his hustle (woo!) for that? That’s another thread, doe…)

couple that with the fact that he raps to other rappers more than to the public. So most of what people would argue is his best music is best in the context of when why he made it. Anyone who starts listening to his catalog today doesn’t know who Meeno is enough to enjoy the ”Mind Right (Remix)”, or knows he was trading shots with Ma$e because Ma$e isn’t as big as he was in 1998. He tried to change the industry from the inside a few times – but he didn’t change what we did outside. “Can I Get A…“ was a great song in 1998. “Big Pimpin“ was a great song in 2001. They are still cool songs but they sound really dated today because you won’t get a lot of the reference.

Jay Z catalogue is the McDonald’s fries of Rap.
He gonna have something hot and fresh for you to snack on for a minute -
but it won’t stick to your ribs, and it’s not as good if you don’t consume it right away.

I've always been lukewarm on Jay's music.Fukk with a few tracks. In My Lifetime, PSA, A Week Ago.Other than that, his music music lacks connectivity with me.That leads to hardly any replay value where i'm at.Always gave me bytch nicca with money vibes, also.Especially after I saw that vid of him mushing a chick in the face.Control your rabid azz emotions, man.Even most of his interviews come off awkward.Always got that nervous tremble in his voice.I've probably said too much.Think I better pull a Houdini & get lost before Leave Britney (Jay Z)Alone plays in the key of life on their mental pianos
