came in to say what most are saying. this is a simpleton's take and couldn't be more wrong. never understood why others want to willingly be this stupid. not even a huge jay fan, but the guy is hip hop for better or worse. Without Jay and his albums, no Roc. IMO, without Rocafella ,the game would have been boring post biggie/pac - to the 00's.

Jay legacy not aged well. He not musically progressive never was, never set trends or pushed shyt. Forced RD into classic discourse when that wasn't what was accepted contemporary times. Just rode waves, linked up wit major collabs. People woke up bout it. On pure rap tip he all time but his catalog already holdin up bad wit Gen Z they stay clownin and wonderin bout his legacy on Tiktok. If he get caught up in any other shyt it only get worse too

Look at his most streamed songs

Umbrella - Rihanna
nikkas In Paris - Ye
Crazy In Love - Beyonce
Empire State - Alicia
Numb / Encore - Linkin Park
Drunk In Love - Beyonce (written by Future)
Run This Town - Ye and Rihanna
No Church In The Wild - Ye and Frank
Monster - Bunch of nikkas on a Ye classic
Holy Grail - Timberlake
Pound Cake - Aubrey
Otis - Ye
Suit & Tie - Timberlake
Big Pimpin - UGK
03 Bonnie Clyde - Beyonce
Gotta Have It - Ye

Then you start gettin to solo Jay shyt that don't already got a superstar on it like 99 Problems, Hard Knock Life, Izzo, Dirt Off, PSA.

Even then look at Jay top 50 most streamed song 90% of em got another monster artist on there and trend of Jay most listened to song suggest he footnote or just there for most em. He not the main reason people bumpin em.

Those are really good points. Also Jay's marriage to Beyonce has really helped him stay relevant over the last 15 years.

Ye was eventually going to blow up regardless.

Highly presumptuous

Kanye’s springboard was his work on one of the best albums of the 00s before it even became a talk of his own solo ambitions. Working with the likes of Mos Def wasn’t going to get Kanye closer to mainstream adoration

He needed Jay-Z and what he represented within rap

Without Dre’s co-sign Em would’ve been relegated to the Soundbombing shyt no differently

Don’t mistake the public’s acceptance of anything nowadays for how shyt was then
