The problem with this is, in '94 less than 1% of the world had the internet. If you factor in how hardcore you'd have to be, to discuss rap online in '94, when virtually no one had the internet....well let's just say any given internet post from '94 doesn't necessarily reflect reality.

Exactly. It's a niche (computer savvy) in a niche (rap fan) in a niche (had enough money to afford the 'net in '94) giving his opinion on "Illmatic".

Nowadays it's kinda silly to say "only on the internet" when there is something like 75% of the U.S. with broadband and 32% of the world is online, total.

But in '94? That shyt was literally only on the internet.

again, you thinking illmatic is overrated isn't my beef with your post. i agree that it is. you calling it a revisionist classic is false though. instead of hanging on to age why don't you admit you were wrong? lol

illmatic is one of few classic out the gate albums. reasonable doubt is a revisionist classic actually. illmatic has been surpassed by some ablums but at the point that it dropped it was the best hip hop album created.
