I would say (as a personal ranking)

Illmatic
ATLiens
7DT
LAD

but 7DT & LAD both suffer from several weak tracks

I'm sure if I wanted to do an objective ranking I'd put in some 80s/early 90s albums but I never had the :ohhh: face listening to LL Cool J or Rakim lol

edit: LL does have some bangers though

Yea you were 6 in 96 so you cant talk about what was hot then

And reasonable doubt is a revisionist classic,it's still better than illmatic

Not quite... Reasonable Doubt was not considered a classic in the 90's...

i wasn't 6 in 96, nice guess though

and you liking rd better than illmatic wasn't my problem with your post. my problem with your post was you saying illmatic is a revisionist classic when it's not and rd is, plain and simple. don't try to change your stance now.

Ok you were 8 then

In 94 Creepin on the come up,ready 2 die,Hard to earn and funkdafied had more buzz than illmatic

I never said rd wasn't a revisionist classic but 96 it wasnt some overlooked album brooklyns finest got mad play on the radio and jay had the 2 tracks wit fox plus cant knock the hustle. It didnt get the praise then cuz 96 is arguably the greatest year in hip hop history and mad classic albums dropped

This is turning into a messy topic....people talking about what had buzz in '94? C'mon son. Stop applying 2012 message board logic to a time when nobody had the internet.

If you were a hip-hop head, you were listening to "Illmatic"....or if you wasn't into NY-centric albums, at the very least you knew the album existed. Between magazines like "The Source" calling Nas the next Rakim, and his videos being on Rap City, The Box, and Yo! MTV Raps, it was kinda hard to avoid.

People acting like Nas and "Illmatic" is Cella Dwellaz or some shyt. :why:

And as far as the topic, #1 is "Death Certificate". I'm not even sure "Illmatic" would be in my top 10.

wrong again, but keep guessing.

buzz and greatness are 2 different things. ready to die is better than illmatic but the others aren't. and ready to die wasn't out until after illmatic dropped, so that doesn't conflict with me saying that at the time of it's dropping it was the best hip hop album. but that wasn't my rebuttal. you called illmatic overrated and said it was a revisionist classic and then said one of the biggest revisionist classics was better.
