If Gamepass is so successful like Microsoft claims, why aren’t there AAA third party games on there?

And I mean on there on the day of release not years after they’ve come out. Microsoft keeps telling us how it’s very successful and publishers are making money yet the only AAA games on there day one are first party games.

Why aren’t Activision, EA, Ubisoft etc putting their games on there day one? Surely they’ve seen the figures and how wildly successful it is? :patrice:

I certainly don't remember RDR2 dropping on Gamepass October 18 but instead a few months ago in 2020.

Were they there day one? Read the damn OP first.

And the Medium, a game made by some small team from Poland is AAA now? :mjlol:

Swear to god this dude just wakes up with Xbox thread ideas on his mind everyday:dead:Multiple 3rd party devs have come out saying gamepass is absolutely great for building their games' player base or bolstering an already existing one. Plus the comparison to EA, Ubisoft, etc. is dumb because they all have their own subscription services doing the same thing with Uplay+ & EA Access:heh:.

Of course most multi-plat devs are going to release on all consoles first so they can get those $60/unit sales on all 3 consoles off the new release hype, then drop it on gamepass down the line when the games' growth plateaus and you can boost your monthly active player numbers pretty easily. Works out for all parties which is why it's been so successful and why they're now emphasizing it for next-gen and PC players.

Gamepass is a great service breh, don't try to so hard to hate on it. ESPECIALLY when your ass aint even using it:aicmon:

Nothing in your title said anything about day 1, it was a misleading title :unimpressed:

You don't get blockbusters day 1 on Disney+ or Netflix, yet you still use one of those services :unimpressed:

DMC V came out in Spring 2019, within 7 months it was on Gamepass. This is the same w/ Metro Exodus and Rage 2 :unimpressed:

No company is going to release a new title on game-pass without development expenses being heavily subsidized by Microsoft.

Why does it matter? 3rd party games drop on epic games store day 1, that doesn't make that shyt any better or worse than anything else.

Here are the issues with this:
  • The movie industry is different as new releases are distributed exclusively through movie theaters BEFORE being distributed via Streaming/DVD/ Blu-ray. No one expects to be able to watch a Blockbuster on day one at home which is a different expectation for video games as they are available for home usage on day one.
    • Gamers are going to gravitate to where the Day one experiences are and if Microsoft intends on sacrificing the fidelity of their games (as we see with Halo) to enrich Gamepass, I think they could be making a losing bet. People will see PS5 as the cutting edge and XBOX as the "cost-effective" option. PS5 will be the iPhone 12 and XBOX will be a brand new iPhone 11 in 2020

  • Subscription Business Model
    • This works well for music because PIRACY has been impacting unit sales. Subscriptions was a way for the industry to stop themselves from dying off...
    • Gaming does not have this issue, they still have strong unit sales through digital and traditional channels so there is no incentive to sell a new game on a subscription platform. It'll simply be a way to further monetize an IP AFTER its unit sales have declined.
