also people just assume you don't have a father because he was a gangbanger or was a baby daddy to 10 women (or the other typical "hood" reasons) when there's so many other reasons for not having a father. For example I've never seen my dad during my youth because apparently he's in some mental illness facility in another state and my mother thought it would be unhealthy for me to have a mentally ill father around. But people without this knowledge makes judgement on my mother.

Whats funny is, it wasn't until I was bout 30 (), that I was able to connect the dots. Single moms or grandma raising the kids was the norm. My sister child's father is in prison and my nephew is out of control.

You look back at your younger days and you realize how fukked up shyt was but you considered it the norm at that time because thats all you knew.

I look back at growing up and I swear out of all the people I knew from school, the hood, etc.... I can count on my hands how many people had a pops in the life.

Should never blame, or make fun or children for things that are beyond their control...in a perfect world. Having a good, decent, or even just present father is a definite advantage, ideal and is needed. But there are some people who had fathers that did more worse than good. Its about parenting skills and how strong the person is. I have seen great people come out of single parent homes. This will continue because we aren't trying to repair these problems, just point fingers and make fun of people. A lot of things that go on in our community needs to be addressed instead of made fun of. I never understood people being so cruel. Its easy to try to call out someone else's flaws to hide your own.

Not like these people had a choice in growing up without fathers.

Before the 70s, growing up without a father (not a kid of widowed mother) meant you were a b*stard. The term died down due to the feminist movement to make being a mother without a man normal to completely push the welfare state on the black community. Thus making these kids property of the state as it until this day.

Not to derail but...
This is the same reason my oldest brother ended up married to a white girl, and me and my other brother rarely dated. We're picky. People need to stop teaching their kids that having a lil boyfriend or girlfriend is cute. Also, need to teach their kids to love themselves and not look for love in other people.

Im from the west oak lane section of Philadelphia. I had north philly kids that tried to antagonize me by ridiculing my parents because they had full time jobs. I told them they would really hate the kids from Mt Airy. The parents there had white collar jobs.
