Yeah I think Pippen was great for his versatility.You could put him on damn near any player besides elite C's & PF's.I never saw him as a shut down guy.

He was a good playmaker, great team defender, offense was mid(igoudala) he couldn’t shoot for shyt, look up ‘96 finals %’s ,shot 41% in the playoffs whole 2nd 3 peat Top 10 player in the 90’s , one of the best 2nd options ever.
