Goku could have easily started up a training gym with some of the money Satan gave him. Have Krillin run it. But Goku is not into legacy building.

If you watch the english version it makes it seem like its a bit more consensual from his side and a bit more loving so since most of us watched the english version its easy to see it being overlooked. But if you watch the Japanese version its basically well I did promise you then so I should do it.

No, that's false. She had no idea Goku didn't know what she was talking about and was shocked he'd forgotten all about it and didn't even know what marriage was. But Goku, being an idiot, just rolled with it because he kept a promise.
The thing that dub obscures is that Chi-Chi's actually a dumb redneck. She devoted herself to marrying Goku after only meeting him once because he patted her on the crotch
. When Chi-Chi asks Goku if he'll come back to marry her he's like "Yeah sure" and leaves it at that. And her dumbass just waited and waited until she had to look for him herself. She's damn near as dumb as Goku is and it never occurred to her that he had no clue what the fukk she was talking about.
