That was my thinking too, but I had a better film (The Godfather 2) in mind than the Irishman :picard:

Done right, telling the story of how the Barksdales rose back in the day concurrently with how Avon is struggling to retain power in an evolving society could be dope. And I’m just using Avon as an example, not suggesting an actual spinoff of The Wire.

Late as fukk seeing this post.

I wasn't speaking in terms of quality. I wasn't even a big fan of "The Irishman". I'm talking about budget alone. "Godfather 2" only cost $13 mill. Adjusted for inflation that's still not even half the budget of "The Irishman".

I can see some dystopian similarities between TDKR Gotham 2049 Blade Runner LA - but that's just the backdrop.

What's the hood story is being told? And I use hood to mean most anything - fundamentally hood movies share a lot of the same elements as film noir. Crime, murder, moral ambiguities, disenchantment.
