The thread was about a hood movie having a high budget yet gets jacked by “not all black movies should be hood”...nothing in OP said a black movie nor that all black movies should be hood stories nor that all black people want to see hood flicks. You want a thread about 100M (black)movies of another genre, make it...

it’s absolutely fair to ask what a baby boy, boyz n the hood, city of god, etc type movie would look like/have with a crazy budget, stick to the topic

I wouldn't call it a hood movie, per say, but the first film that came to mind was "Straight Outta Compton", which had budget around 50M max.

I'd suppose a hood movie that shows a come-up and requires music licensing and location could do it. I don't think you could get a hood movie to cost 100M unless there was some element of fantasy in it.

what can i use the budget on?
because there really isn't any "new" stories you can tell
There's only a handfull of plots you can remix
So I can make "The Wire" the movie based on season 1 plot lines with Denzel ($20M) playing the Lester Freeman, Will Smith ($20M) playing Bunk, Marky Mark ($10M) paying McNulty and a host of today's major rappers to fill out the cast and get to $100M easy

That Superfly remake that came out a few years ago cost $16M with a bunch of no names
If I made that with the cast of Black Panther (Chad, MBJ, etc), I could get to $50M easy

Wouldn't be a hood movie but movie about the gods of Egypt and God of Israel with good multi dimensional black actors from all regions. Maybe even an assassins creed origins.

I thought the OP was a pretty open-ended question, one that would allow for and include re-imaginings of hood films.

Didn't know we had to stick to a box, or certain films in particular. Damn.

Didn't know Baby Boy, a coming of age, film was a hood movie in the same sense as Paid In Full. Or The Wood to Juice.

I don't even know gangsta movies that require a big budget unless you're hiring top actors.

I think with 100M you should be able to do what you want, I think that's the point of the exercise, free your imagination.

But some folks seem to have a problem if your idea of a hood film, with a 100M budget, isn't their idea of a hood film.

The idea of Hood Sci-Fi isn't sticking to the topic I guess.
