That’s thinking too limited. If you’re getting that budget for an all black cast why not do a sci-fi movie? Or a western? Or an action adventure flick? Or a big budget horror flick? I know the coli doesn’t think this but not every black person is from the hood

That’s a hood movie to you? I felt like that’s just a gangster flick in the same vein of most gangster flicks just with Black people. Just because we’re in it doesn’t make it a good movie

I mean, it's about a black gangster set in Harlem. 3 of the top 4 or 5 top billed in the cast are black. If it's not black enough because the director and screenwriter were white I get it. But American Gangster is damn near what you would get with a 100 million budget good flick. Top drawer lead, top drawer director, top drawer script, and not to mention a soundtrack by the one of the greatest rappers of all time.

I’m saying I wouldn’t call it a hood flick tho. So I guess that gets into what one considers a hood flick. Hoodlum is about bumpy Johnson and I don’t consider that a hood flick. Paid in full has a completely different aesthetic than American gangster even if their subject matter is similar. American gangster has more in common with godfather in presentation and theme

That's what I've been saying since the other threads about such things.

And even being from the hood, not every black person is about hood shyt.

The one great all-black western I've seen is The Cherokee Kid, and that was made for TV. Now, if that had managed to have a Mag Seven type budget, it would've been even better.

You should check out posse. I don’t think it’s great but it’s good. If you like Cherokee kid you’ll probably like posse a lot more.

But back to your point, yeah. We need to think bigger. I’m not from the hood and would never try to front like I am. I’d like to see a budget of that kind used to tell different stories. Not bigger versions of the same stories we’ve heard for years. Tell the story of a black astronaut or black spy or a black oceans 11 type movie. We pigeonhole ourselves
