We going up against a very formidable foe at a vast disadvantage. 13 armed soldiers in one day is a lot better than 50 innocent civilians

And yes, I'm sure. From a military standpoint (not political) 13 dead in a urban assault where the other side knows the terrain, can blend with the populace, is in a defensive position, and is targeting clearly uniformed offensive targets is a low number. Urban warfare is not kind to those in the ground assault.
The Israelis and IDF for some odd reason decided to broadcast days in advance they were going to do this. That's baffling.

Yea, I meant 13 in the offensive push. Again, I'm only commenting from a military standpoint. Taking urban terrain like that is crippling.
Do you know how much ground they gained? I've only read vague reports about ground and mounted patrols through the areas so I don't know.

I feel so bad for them, my og Israelites deserve better than this. I understand the cause of celebration from your viewpoint. Seems anything to grasp at something good. But every military on the planet would take 14 losses in a urban assault of this caliber and under those circumstances. It's the very nature of defensive tactics and MOUT: the offense is always at a disadvantage regardless of military discrepancy. On the other hand, those on defense are at a disadvantage when it comes to indirect fire, strikes, and from siege tactics (i.e., cutting off full supplies and starving them to death).
In this day and age though the PR war matters, and a capture IDF soldier is a valuable bargaining tool.
