Its pretty difficult to hide blacks considering that most Cubans are mulattoes or Black. Don't forget that many people classify themselves as something other that black.

So how is the author using the term "mestizo"....doesn't he mean "mulatto"...of black and white mixing?

Mestizo seems more applicable to Mexico, Peru, Colombia, or even Brazil and Chile....but not the Caribbean.....the author is using incorrect terminology...maybe I'm wrong..

You are right but (and someone correct me if im wrong) but in cuba and dr (and other places) mestizo can refer to all mixed raced people
