Exactly. Hell, even the Imperial soldiers don't really respect him. They fear him, cause he Force chokes them up, but they still talk to him however...and Tarkin pays him no mind. He's a glorified goon.

Overall, I think they did as good of a job as they could do with tying in the PT with the OT. Even making an attempt to have Leia's eyes open after she was born, to look at her mother.

You have to be a psychopath to be Darth Vader, he's not a "one bad night" kind of guy or a political idealist like Dooku. People tend to forget how vicious his actions were in the OGs, some it is truly borderline deranged. Which fits Anakin's unstable jealous emotional angsty ass.

Vader:

- Makes it a point to stand by as a princess gets tortured and her planet blown up.
- When finding out he has a son, tortures his son's friends to lure him out only to try and beat him into submission. As soon as his son gets ONE hit in Vader straight up dismembers him and THEN still has the nerve to ask him to join his cause.
- When his son tries to save him, he has him jailed and brought before the worst person in the galaxy.
- When he finds out he has a daughter, the first thing he does is gloat over Obi-Wans secret being out and then tells Luke he will do the exact same shyt to her too.

Dooku is important because it shows the difference between a Jedi losing his way over ideals vs a Jedi (Anakin) losing his way due to his character, the tragedy is that in moments of clarity Anakin saw it in himself but he didn't stop it.

"I'm a Jedi, I know I'm better than this"
"Something's happening...I'm not the Jedi I should be. I want more, and I know I shouldn't"

It's THAT part of his character that Padme and Luke recognize and try to save.

The three villains of the prequels were episodic by design, together they make up Darth Vader.

Darth Maul: Vader's hatred and blind devotion to it.
Count Dooku/Darth Tyranus: Vader's Jedi training and betrayal of it/them.
General Grievous: Vader's physical destruction/"more machine than man"

Lucas :wow:

And each one was Palpatine/Sidious analyzing where he went wrong with them, and taking a different approach. Luke was the next step, with potential
