Yall missed the joke. Will Smith practiced selective outrage. People were shytting on him and he had no smoke for them, but when a nikka who he KNEW he could beat made one joke he took the chance to take all his anger out on him. That is low testosterone energy. Chris also knew he'd look stupid trying to fight against a nikka he can't beat in front of an audience of cacs. Our dysfunction or beef should not be their entertainment.

Nah, it wasn't a damned if you, damned if you don't.

He didn't need to press Will on the spot but when he was saying "Keep my wife's name out your fukking mouth" he could have said "We'll talk about this backstage".

Instead he tried playing it down "It was a G.I joke :sadcam:" because he didn't want to get slapped again.

I applaud Will for slapping him. It is funny that Chris said his parents raised him not to fight in front of white people. Inadvertently showing the world the c00n they raised. Any black person raised right would know not to clown a brother in front of white people.

Yep I didn't even think about this reverse argument. If your mama taught you not to fight in front of white people, she should have taught you not to make fun of black ppl in front of white people

What I didn’t get is, by attacking Will and his wife verbally in the special, isn’t he “fighting in front of white people”? Seemed a bit hypocritical

I liked the special and I didn’t mind him teeing off on Will and Jada, it’s just that the knockout punch didn’t really land

I think we all know what he’s REALLY trying to say

And the fact remains that that statement would have been more powerful and impactful had there not been readily available video of him sitting around cackling happily while a room of white people call him a N I G G E R.

It is what it is. He’s practicing “Selective Respectability Politics”. If your going to have a code around white people, STICK to that code.

I completely understand Chris Rock not wanting to act a fool at the Oscars. Him and Will fighting on that stage would have unleashed a FIRESTORM of racism and outward prejudice the likes of which probably haven’t been seen in Hollywood in decades. It would have been a TERRIBLE look for black men. The media would have used Chris and Will as avatars for the “savagery” of every black man, boy, and baby whose ever existed. Jamele Hill, Amanda Diva, and the rank and file members of the “She-Woman Black Male Haters Club” would have been unleashed to spew every misandrist, horrid, wild thing they ever DREAMED of saying. shyt would have been awful.

Chris Rock actually did the “right” thing in the moment. But the optics look bad highlighting why you did it when you never disavowed that video

I cannot wait for these perfect people to start making their stand up specials and becoming politicians and all the other public jobs.

"He said this. He should removed this one word then he would be allowed to say what he said"

That's cool to think to yourself but it bothers you to the point where you want to write about it. On the internet.

Same thing with every word uttered by a public figure. The statement being slightly off of what an individual would have IMAGINED drives the individual into a fury.

Meanwhile, where's the perfect comedian that Chris Rock SHOULD be? The guy who does everything Rock does well but also does not share these flaws?

That's right. The flawless person lives in your imagination only.

How the hell is that not a c00n statement? :mjtf:

He was raised not to fight in front of white ppl but he tells them it's okay to call Black ppl "nxggers". Which one is it, Rock? Is it oochie wally or one mic?

The funniest part is that the ones finding a lot of excuses for what he said, don't even understand that they are implying that if it was at BET or any similar award, with mostly black people there, then it would be completely fine for him to fight back.

This is a con game that white people played on black people, due to their control of the media. Incutting on black minds that black people can only do things or express themselves on white terms and with their approval. And many black people carry this on their minds daily.

Point is, he shouldn't fight back because he knew the black man that attacked him(a former friend), and also knew that this wasn't a normal thing for him, that's it. The dude never had any problem in trashing black people, mainly black women, in front of white people. So all that babbling makes zero sense.

The Truth
I’m surprised (or not surprised) people here never heard that saying before.

It’s definitely something American black parents used to tell their kids growing up.. don’t act up in front of white people. It will almost always be used against you at some point

Marlon Wayans made the best point of it in his standup. It was the first black directed, black produced, black hosted, black whatever type oscar all because of the backlash from the years before. With Will Smith winning the Oscar for best actor which has only been done 4 times by 3 black people (Denzel did it twice).

All for this shyt to happen. Basically taking 2 steps back from what it was before.

Black people don’t really care about the Oscars but to black entertainers it’s important I guess. If you not ADOS and grew up in atleast the 80’s, you wouldn’t understand what it meant. But you will see what they mean eventually

This is when I start questioning blackness around here :pachaha:
Every black person
I don’t give a fukk what kind of station in life you come from
Has been taught this or somebody said it to you:childplease:
Now we can question or place a marker on it as being c00n/sambo/jiggaboo language
Especially since we know better as adults
But don’t leave out the history and context on why that phrase was said to us
Jim Crow was a very real thing in this country
Your ancestors and kinfolks were trying to survive the racist regime that is america
That’s why before he even went into the Will bit
He explained the very real reality that black people had no rights whatsoever
To the point people had to go to the vet to get dentistry done and have other health related issues performed
The saying was to keep you in check and not have you stereotyped in a world that hates your existence all due to your skin color
To keep you some what safe and not tarnish your peoples name in them streets
Again
Is it c00nish
That’s up to your personal beliefs
But if you never had a conversation with elder black folks and took your own emotions/anger out of it
And LISTENED
You would know better
All that tough, militant talk y’all do on here
Is just that
Even though we are living in some dire times
At least we have the means to defend ourselves
People forget that back then
If you even stood up to a white person
If you didn’t runaway after the incident
They would kidnap you out of your home
Murder everybody in that bytch
And burn your house down
And that was in the 1950s
So before you gump nikkas stand on your virtual, Supreme kufi soapbox
Understand your history and talk to your elders
Perspective
We have black people from Canada, Africa, The UK, the Caribbean and all over posting here. I think they’re the ones asking.

Maybe I was raised differently but I don’t particularly care what white people think of me as they will hate me no matter how I act

So this Whole “don’t fight in front of the whites” shyt is just a cop out for why he didn’t defend himself a year ago

He was flaming Jada in front of those White folks at the Oscar’s in 2016 after a lot of Black performers decided to boycott.

He was flaming Jada last year again in front of those White folks again.

So miss me with all that shyt I was kinda on his side but now I’m glad Will smacked his ass nikka been acting like a bytch.

Y'all know exactly what he's talking about.

Two black men fighting on stage at the Oscars (cac show) would have been horrible.

How about a black man calling a black woman a bytch x12 in front of white people? How about a black man saying he was cheering for massa in front of white people?

Between “get em massa” & don’t fight in front of white ppl

That was strange.

How about “don’t fight in front of people?” Used that special to put cacs on a pedestal
Isn’t that what he said? The 2nd part? Or did he specifically mention white people?

Either way, I sort of understand the sentiment. I think he just means he’s never given white people ammunition.
