After what Hal said today, if you have memories of the 2009 World Series, merch, DVD's, cherish that shyt, cuz we may not get there again as long as he's owner.
Seen the ravens win 2 super bowls in the 2 best manners possible (blowout with an all time great defensive showing & the 2 best players at their positions arguably ever on defense making a goal line stand in their final season). Seen the heat win it all 3 times with each title run having its own incredible buzz to it during the finals that made them all distinct. Doubt I’ll ever see an islanders Stanley cup parade. Don’t remember 1996, 1998, or 1999 particularly well since I was little and out of market. Obviously 2000 was amazing. 2009 still means the most of any of the 10 title seasons I’ve seen from a favorite team of mine and it’s not close. I can still remember the texture of the chair I was sitting in when Mariano recorded the final out. Still have shirts commemorating that season.
Meanwhile hal is talking about being open to a hard salary cap when fan anger and disillusionment with him and this team is at an all time high. I find this shyt more offensive than what John fisher is being allowed to do to the Oakland A’s & what Jeff Loria did to the expos and marlins. This is a team that’s expected to go above and beyond to be great every year and every time he opens his mouth it’s to make excuses and justify his apathy towards winning in service of not paying the tax consistently while defending his awful GM & manager.
It can be credibly argued that no team means more to their league than the Yankees do to Major League Baseball and the league office has deliberately allowed hal to run this franchise into the ground to save a bit of cash damn near bust out job style for the better part of 15 years. He was one of the driving forces that nearly cost us games and almost the entire season last winter with the lockout. I’m not sure there’s ever been an owner in sports more destructive to their team and their league than he is given the weight that owning the Yankees carries.
