To be fair, the AL East is easily the hardest division to win in ball. The other 3 teams have been getting good for quite some time while the Rays have been on or near the top for a decade now. O’s have flashed the last 2 seasons but finally put it together, and the Jays drafted really really well to get to where they are now.
You’re kinda right, but Baltimore refuses to spend so they won’t be good for long. They have one of the cheapest owners in the sport and the same goes for Tampa. I think the biggest total value of any contract they’ve ever given out is $44 million so every 2-3 years they have to hit the reset button too. Toronto is talented as well but they never really put it all together. I think 2015 and 2016 are their only division titles since 1994. It feels like they’re always one step away.

I stopped caring about the Yankees a while ago. I said it in this thread at the beginning of the season: from top to bottom, the Yankees organization right now is trash.

I have a great piece of mind due to not caring about this team anymore. I just sit back, observe and chill :manny:

Yeah the Jake Peavy Blue Jays days are long gone. They have a solid ass core though, I wish we never would’ve let Springer walk. He has some kind of switch that doesn’t activate till October and then all of a sudden he goes full god mode lol

Cashman didn't want to give Judge 9 years, but he was perfectly okay with giving Hicks 7

An unserious General Manager, yet he has immunity SMH
Gave Carlos rodon the same deal he wouldn’t even consider offering to Freddie freeman. Spent $21 million a year on Jacoby ellsbury, $15 million a year on :flabbynsick: beltran, & $13 million a year on :flabbynsick: Brian McCann, but he wouldn’t spend $24 million a year on peak Cano. WOAT GM.

What pisses me off isn't even shyt like that. Giving Judge 9 years will burn this team in the end, but fans wanted their own Mattingly so bad.

It's how deals like Ellsbury, A-Rod, Teixeira HAUNTED him, to the point where Ellsbury only came off the books 2 seasons ago but can't wait to throw those years on guys who can't stay healthy (and in some cases, it's just to lower the AAV). Carlos Rodon in reality wasn't someone the Yankees should have been interested in as he checked off every bad trait this team should be avoiding, but since this team is above actually using their prospects (which a) gives you the most years and b) is the cheapest route), they resort to half-measures and then blatantly overpaying guys. Bad teams do that.

Every long term deal ends bad seemingly except for Jeter’s 10 year deal that he got at 26. It’s the cost of keeping a star through their prime. The problem is passing on the guys in their mid 20’s who were in line to get those deals that wouldn’t have many years at an age where it should be expected they’d get burned. Of course the last few years of Judge’s deal will probably be bad, but the alternative is losing the face of baseball and the best in house developed Yankee in 60 years less than a decade after losing their last star player in free agency because they got cheap. That’s the sort of thing that irrevocably damages the perception of an organization. The problem is that Judge and Cole are the only guys they committed to long term so the rest of the team is guys on short and bad deals.
