Let's take it back further. I see people have already posted busts when he showed up everywhere looking like a Thai street prostitute.(and people said he was wack too) The shiny suit era was heavily shytted on. When Master P and NL were running the game people were bytching. Stop acting like the 90s were some nirvana

Not on the scale of a J Prince, Suge, Dame, Diddy, Master P, Or Birdman. These "independent" nikkas are only independent to a certain degree. They're still under contracts and various parent companies. And they're not making no real moves in this industry. They just make music an thats it. No redefining the standard or any of that shyt like Dame was trying to do
The issue with this comparison is that labels have far more reach now than they did in the past.
I have one friend here in Ohio who is trying to stay independent, and has had some solid looks (Sway has had him on three times, he's performed at national festivals like SXSW, he's headline shows for Drake and MGK), but there the sheer popularity you have to have as an artist alongside a "gimmick" of sorts to separate you from the pack of talented artists, means that there have to be fewer "mogul"-like people.
At the time Suge, Dame/Jay, Master P, Birdman, etc were taking control, hip-hop was still like an undiscovered land.
You can't do the same thing now, unless you're already a wealthy and established artist with a machine behind you, and the know-how to navigate the system.

Every rapper wasn't amazing but they weren't on the druggie/homo thug hype :francis:
Weren't a few members of Cash Money on heroin, a few members of the Wu-Tang clan regular cocaine users, Eminem has been open about his use since the early 2000s and TI was on the exact same stuff, let's not forget Pimp C, Lil Wayne, and Gucci Mane's lean use, as well as OBD and Flavor Flav's drug use, etc.
I could go on but just like Father's Children said "my dirty filthy habitat, is where I got my habit at," drug use and a music form that comes from poverty go hand-in-hand.

I don't give a fukk how you feel about the rappers I mentioned. That has nothing to do with anything.

You said Craig Mack, Da Brat, and Salt & Pepa was the biggest rappers of 1994. You clearly weren't listening to rap in 1994 to say some shyt like that....so just stay in your lane. I dunno why people feel like since they can Google something it makes them an expert. Like the Nas shyt. Jay Elec flat out said that's false years ago.

you gotta be kidding me if you never heard electro hop/funk in typical street/hiphop settings:dahell:

thats like saying, listen to "Sucker MCs" and then listening to

...and asking if they're the same genre:beli:

Electro and Electro Funk/Rap aren't the same thing.

Funk and Disco is the foundation for HipHop, period. Kraftwerk influence is in the sub-sound of HipHop that came to be Electro Hop/Funk

Terrible analogy because people acknowledged Funky Four Plus One as rappers.

People paid lip service to Africa Bambaataa and his music because of how influential it was. Nobody was talking about he's a rapper though. The original beef I had was people are deflecting criticisms of these "gay" (who knows really?) rappers by attacking Bambaataa....who ain't a rapper. We can split hairs all day about what kind of music he made, but he ain't no fukking rapper like Young Thug or Lil Uzi Vert.

He's HipHop 100% though

Baam is on a higher tier of importance to HipHop than those guys though.

in the murder capital where we murda for capital
I got to page 10 before I decided to put in my 2 cents.

As for how these new rappers dress it's just following trends in fashion, my nephew listens to all this garbage (yes that's my opinion on alot of the new music) and he dresses just like them.

Secondly if you like the music, that's fine, don't let anyone tell you it's not good we all have opinions and what you listen to in your headphones is not of another person's concern but let's be one hundred for a second, most of these new rappers are being saved by these producers
