It was a good movie. If you liked "Remember the Titans" then you will definitely would enjoy it. I dunno what many have expected, but for the sake of trying to get it appealing to the general audience to bring their kids to go watch and see, he had to tone it down to make it a heart-warming and inspirational film.
I do find it funny for others in THE COLI that have seen it not understanding the character analysis of Jackie Robinson in this movie. I blame it on the fact that Harrison Ford is and always have been so CHARISMATIC that his role as Branch Rickey overshadows everything. But from watching this movie, I learned something about Jackie that I never really realized before. Dude if he had it his way initially wanted to REBEL, he was someone that had to fight back his temper. And the one scene is the most telling when he told his assigned reporter that the reason he gets irritated a lot is because he HATES it when others do things for him that he could not do for himself.
But for ANYONE to undermine the importance of Branch Rickey's role in all of this is ridiculous. It is just as much about Branch Rickey as it is about Jackie Robinson. Robinson was just a pick of the litter, the major importance that he made is that he successfully fulfilled the vision that Rickey intended. The whole point of this is the fact that Rickey wanted to change the makeup of baseball. Robinson wasn't the BEST player in the Negro Leagues, but he was the perfect fit when it comes to personality to go along with him being skillfully talented. So the politics of how all of this came about HAD to be shown. Because it wasn't just Jackie that had to endure everything, it was the entire Dodgers team. And Rickey was the one instrumental behind all of it. The truth is, Jackie wouldn't of made it all alone.
