This movie wasnt that bad for a historical disney drama. I wish they would have replaced all the cac parts with jackie coming up in LA, joining a gang, going to college, smashin at UCLA then going to the negro leagues but disney isnt about realism they are about heart strings. They should have showed more than his rookie year with the dodgers too. 1955 :whew:

The problem is that it wasn't a Disney film.

For those thirsty for a movie about Jackie Robinson's life in total I just saw Ken Burns (Central Park Five) on Meet the Press and he said a doc is in the works. Did a search and found this blurb.

Jackie Robinson (2015) will look at the life and times of Jack Roosevelt Robinson, a sharecropper’s son from rural Georgia who lettered in four sports at UCLA, served in the United States Army during the Second World War and went on to break baseball’s color barrier. A leader and icon of the civil rights movement, entrepreneur and devoted family man, Robinson continues to inspire Americans with his exemplary life and aspirational message of equality.

2 episodes, 4 hours each, 2015 broadcast
Budget: $7 million - $4 million committed - $3 million to be raised

It was a good movie. If you liked "Remember the Titans" then you will definitely would enjoy it. I dunno what many have expected, but for the sake of trying to get it appealing to the general audience to bring their kids to go watch and see, he had to tone it down to make it a heart-warming and inspirational film.

I do find it funny for others in THE COLI that have seen it not understanding the character analysis of Jackie Robinson in this movie. I blame it on the fact that Harrison Ford is and always have been so CHARISMATIC that his role as Branch Rickey overshadows everything. But from watching this movie, I learned something about Jackie that I never really realized before. Dude if he had it his way initially wanted to REBEL, he was someone that had to fight back his temper. And the one scene is the most telling when he told his assigned reporter that the reason he gets irritated a lot is because he HATES it when others do things for him that he could not do for himself.

But for ANYONE to undermine the importance of Branch Rickey's role in all of this is ridiculous. It is just as much about Branch Rickey as it is about Jackie Robinson. Robinson was just a pick of the litter, the major importance that he made is that he successfully fulfilled the vision that Rickey intended. The whole point of this is the fact that Rickey wanted to change the makeup of baseball. Robinson wasn't the BEST player in the Negro Leagues, but he was the perfect fit when it comes to personality to go along with him being skillfully talented. So the politics of how all of this came about HAD to be shown. Because it wasn't just Jackie that had to endure everything, it was the entire Dodgers team. And Rickey was the one instrumental behind all of it. The truth is, Jackie wouldn't of made it all alone.

People in my theatre clapped at the end too. My friend watched a different showing and said the same.

Glad people are kindhearted in a sense.

where did I say none of this happened? :leostare:

The movie lacked grit and the made Jackie kind of larger than life. I didnt like that, but I never said they didnt show racism. They just did it in a really tolerable way.

I also didnt say the movie sucked.

:dwillhuh: Jackie was larger than life.... and thats why he is the only baseball player in the entire MLB with his number retired across all baseball teams..

in a tolerable way ? bruh, when the manager was out there you could hear and see the movie theatre go :huhldup::huhldup:

I dont know what you were expecting from a pg-13 movie.. I think the movie was on point, I think your expetations and review are not..

Jackie Robinson was a human being.

Outside of the Philly game, we didnt get any real complexities in him. NO real emotions. The only time we saw any type of emotion was on the diamond.

one moment out of 162 games?

I expect more grit, it didnt provide that.

That does not mean I disliked the movie, quite the opposite. But for a film to go in on Jackie Robinson's rookie season, I feel like it didnt do enough and was very formulaic. If you think thats great then good for you. I didnt.

:scusthov: do you watch movies or just skim through them ?

He got hit in the fukking head with a pitch and that wasnt a philly game and it started a big ass fight between teams, and he ended up facing them later on to clinch for the playoffs and hit a home run..to me and the rest of the theatre that was more emotional than the philly game

I tried to be cordial, but you decided to insult. I will put it like this, im not a simple movie watcher. I dont fall for the easy shyt.

And taht last scene was the most formulaic of formulaic. It felt like Spielberg was directing it a light movie.

Now if you dig formulaic and tame movies, then go for it. Just dont insult someone who disagrees with you and wants more. Who wants a movie that talks about the character instead of just the legend.
