Yeah.

I'm not ready for him to be exposed to "******" just yet. At the moment, he doesn't see a difference, I don't want to put it in his head before I have to.

I'd be more comfortable with him hearing "fukk" in a movie.
they say ****** a lot, but its mostly the crowd.

There is one scene where a manager is berating him.

Racism is cartoonish, but the movie never made me feel how bad dude had it.

Ok brehs, saw 42 tonight.

It is a very Disney like movie. The score, the slow moments, tender moments, etc. Just very Disney like.

It didnt suck but it was waaaaaay to Disney-like to really take serious.

I dont know if they wanted it to be that way, but Chadwick didnt really open his mouth to speak much. Was kind of weird.

I feel like Branch Rickey caught more hell than Jackie Robinson did as well. I mean Jackie caught it hard, but a lot of the film was to show that Branch Rickey was a good white man trying to do good.

Nicole Beharie, from Shame, plays Rachel Robinson. She wasnt bad, but one scene she was supposed to be crying but no tears were coming out. Maybe I saw it wrong, but that was weird, lol. She looked so sweet tho, I wanted to kiss her on the forehead.

All in all, the movie did its job which was to make you feel good. I liked the movie, even through the flaws.

3/5

Are you surprised? This is Hollywood. Even in a story about the difficulties a Black person went through, they're going to make sure you recognize that the white guy was the hero/star and he had to go through even more turmoil.

I'm sure I'mma still see it.
you should

despite my critiques, when you go in with the mindset that its more of a Disney film, you will like it.

its not that bad, tbf

Chadwick is the star of the film, but it gave Ford more coverage than he deserved.

old news breh :manny:

she still a gawdess, and I still want to kiss her on the forehead:odawg:

one thing I will say, the baseball scenes werent great but I liked them. When he stealing bases, I feel like that was def taken from some old Negro League games.

So was the n word muttered alot?

How did the movie Begin Jackie at UCLA? Or Jackie in Montreal?

How did the movie end? Jackie dying of diabetes? Or did it just concentrate on his first year.

Thought it would have followed like

N word is used a lot.

Movie began with Jack playing for the Monarchs and Branch Rickey talking

it only covers his rookie year

Sounds like it got the Django treatment. Sell the film on its Black, titular main character. Halfway through the film the audience realizes the White man is the focus and overall driving force of the story.

nah, its not that bad.

But Branch Rickey had more of a personality than Jackie Robinson did.

Jackie Robinson can't sign himself to the Dodgers and it wasn't his idea. In this case their had to be a white person (Branch Rickey) instrumental to Jackie breaking the color barrier in baseball.

True, but they're saying Rickey was more focused on in the film's context than Robinson-I give no fukks about the perceived hell that Branch Rickey endured. Why can't Robinson's experience be enough for the story? Why do they feel the need to "qualify" it by reminding us that no black can ever do anything without a white man?
