He didn't have to say anything and if he did, he could have said something like the example I gave in my post. Recognizing that murder is wrong while at the same time at least acknowledging the public's reaction. This is part of the reason why maga has appeal, they at least acknowledge the feelings of their base and tell them "you're not crazy, I'm watching the news too and I agree with you".
