We always connected go go music to Africa when it first came out....because that's what it sounds like. That's where half of the ass shaking come from. Okay, I said it. But if you look at it this way, all music is ass shaking music, if it's dance music.

A yo kill Moe...I think I'm officially a old head now. I was born & raised in DC, I know the city like the back of my hand. I used to stay in the Go-Gos but for some reason, I can't even tolerate it anymore. It's so freaking annoying to me now.

Was you hanging at the Howard Theater and IBEX? Go Go use to live at the Club Lebon in Palmer Park. I use to be at all three, plus when they first got started at Parkdale High School, playing at night functions. I'm talking about TF, RE, and EU, the first three go go bands that came out. They sounded like garbage back then at Parkdale High and in those clubs, until TF came on the radio with E-Flat Boogie.

But what was annoying was those fights that oftened broke out with all that hood competition. You'd have NW, SE, NE, etc...all ready to fight each other before the night was up.

I don't remember The Room. How was it?
The Room hit the scene around the late 70's. It's been so long, I can't exactly remember where it was anymore. but I do remember it was in NW as well. I think it was around 11th or 12th St. It turned into a rough joint quick. It was worst than Howard Theater, and that was already rough enough during the late 70's and early 80''s. I only went to The Room about twice. How it turned out didn't surprised me though, because that area was already rough. I guess when they played Big Tony from Trouble Funk, and heard him comparing NW to SE, that's all it took for them hard heads. You didn't even go to that club unless you wanted fight or get jumped. I think it was close to the old Greyhound Bus Station, but again don't quote me on this either.

I've only seen RE a few times ( the battle of the bands at the Armory, Roose homecoming, and some place out MD).

I'm from Uptown so I started going to Go-Go's when Back & UCB came out. I was too young for the Ibex but I was at the La Pena, the Met, and the Lime. My band was UCB and where ever they played, I was there.

On the topic of mumbo sauce, THE best carryout to get that shyt in PG County is Eddie Leonard’s on 7603 Marlboro Pike in District Heights. It’s in the hood like most carryouts out here and that particular carryout stays having car break-ins and shyt outside its doors while nikkas order they shyt but trust, it’s worth it :pachaha:

The best carryout mumbo sauce I’ve had in the City so far, is Howard China (they’re calling it something else now) on Georgia Ave. shyt was :banderas:

I wanna try out the mumbo sauce at Jerry’s
across the street from Howard Hospital since a lot of Uptown folks swear by it but I ain’t taking no chances with finding rat shyt in my sauce from that dirty ass place :hubie:
i always pass that place is it real good?
never had mumbo before

I first saw Chuck Brown when I was like 14 at the DC Food Festival on Penn Ave. I was with my parents and all of us were rocking on the steps of the post office pavillion(now Trump hotel)....he had the whole crowd...white/black/latino/whatever....partying like shyt. i'll never forget that performance.

Saw him again at the Black Family Reunion in 2000 by the monument. i swear all of DC was out there and lit up at the first smack of the congos lol

Never been to Jerry’s yet, I’m just too scary to try theirs cause there’s a bunch of rat nests in the bushes across the street around the HU Hospital parking lot and it don’t help that Jerry’s look grimey in a dirty kinda way...Like a place you’d expect rodent shyt to be in your order somehow :mjpls: And this is coming from someone who fukks with hole-in-the-walls heavy.

I first saw Chuck when he was signing his latest album at the Walmart in Clinton back in 2010 (think that was the year). It was like seeing The Creator in person breh...I was too nervous to approach or even come closer to him....By the time I worked up the courage to greet him, he and his peoples were gone as was the whole line of people...Never had that chance to see him up close again. Still sucks that he passed on two years later :wow:

And I remember the Black Family Reunion 2000!!! My grandma took me there, I was almost 8 years old at the time. Rode into the City from Addison Rd. Metro on the Blue line, she used to take that line every time she had to work as a bartender and check-in attendant at Constitution Hall. I would love to relive those days again.

Eternal RIP to that OG of a lil Black Woman str8 outta Richmond, VA mane :mjcry:
