This cut here got a lot of cats jumped, especially if you was from Palmer Park where Sugar Ray Leonard grew up. The DJ had to be real careful when playing this song. I remember two of my very best friends (RIP), both outta the Park, got jumped partying to this song. What's so bad was, the party was right next door in Kentland. Ray Leonard caused a lot of jealousy in the metro area back then. I still remember when he got back from Montreal after winning the gold. It was on live tv, and the news crew were outside his house in Palmer Park, but we never saw him. I just remember the journalist saying that he was getting word that some of the neighbors wanted to fight Ray. That's when I found out how sick we can be as a people. But to be honest, that didn't even surprise me. But today, I realize how cheesy it was to even report that on live tv.

Anyway, my two buddies got chased from Kentland all the way to Palmer Park, just because they were dancing to this song. One of my buddies was tall and kinda on the muscular side, and fast on his feet, while the other one was tall and very skinny, who was a long distance runner in high school, but not known for having speed. One of them got caught. But each told me the other got caught. Guess who I believed. Btw, I just found out about eight years ago that I'm a distant cousin to Ray Leonard. First I was thinking I wished I knew that back then. But when I really think about it, I probably would have experienced way worst than my two buddies.

I remember this one brother was actually boxing to this song. I'm sure they got him straight later on. I know you old schoolers remember Sugar Bear from EU.

Tbh, I be shook to even think about driving around Palmer Park and I grew up in Suitland, District Heights, and Walker Mill of all places. It’s always some gully shyt going on up that way. I’m good moe, go head :hubie:

Don’t know how bad Kentland was back in the early 90’s but it’s still living up to it’s Kentland Zoo name to this day. Most of that whole Landover area in general been ratchet since the mall used to be there (RIP Landover Mall).

I’ve seen Sugar Bear one time at Jiffy Shoppes off of Allentown Rd a few years ago talking to some ladies as he was on his way to his car. It was dope seeing another legendary GoGo legend in person. He seemed like a really cool dude.

Palmer Park had a bad rep back then, especially after a lot folks from SE started moving out there in the late 60's. It got crowded. But other than the Club Lebaron, where they use to have all the bands, and all the dope, it was actually kinda quiet. But that didn't mean you could trust them.

Oh yeah, Kentland was the hood way before the 90's. I think Martin Lawrence grew up in Kentland, or at least somewhere in Landover. I know this because I remember this write up not to long after his show aired. He was talking about back when he was like five or seven, and he remembered things that only people that have history in that area would know about, like when The Club Utopia use to be a movie theater. Now that's going back. I don't know how far you go back, but Kentland was where the late Len Bias grew up, that brother who just got drafted out of U of MD, and was just about to go to the Boston Celtics. He was one down to earth brother, who always spoke to me first on campus. He road the high school bus with my daughters mother, also out of Kentland.

That Mall was something. I can't believe it's still sitting there empty.

Btw, I use to live right there in District Heights near Walker Mill Road on Marlboro Pike from 1998 to 2006, but we went under Forestville back then. It use to be cool in that entire area many years ago, but now the same thing happened there like it did in Palmer Park, and a lot of people from SE moved in. I remember it use to be wild down there by Eddy Leonards near the DC border, especially in the earlier 90's. It seemed like it cooled off for a moment, then got wild all over again. I use to love those fish subs from Eddies though. We first started going to the one on Bladensburg Rd, NE, back when I was living in Bladensburg. You always had to go to the hood to find Eddies.

I don't know if I already mentioned it in this thread, but it wasn't called GoGo at first. It went from the DC Groove, to the DC Beat, and maybe one other names before it turned into GoGo. Then again, it actually went by all three names later on, at one point. But GoGo stuck.
