Problem is Harris thrives in the slot- he is less effective on the outside plus he is over 30

shyt, they are only 18 months apart, Slay and Harris. One just comes infinitely cheaper all around.

Though one being better suited as an outside corner is the more important aspect. I hope he is worth his contract and said contract doesn't hinder Howie from getting anyone. As of right now I'm indifferent on this move. I'll wait for the season.

Yall hearing these Julio Jones to Eagles rumors

Complete news to me. If true, it would at least help make sense as to why Hopkins was talked about but not acquired. Not sure how I feel about mercenaries who come at a premium cost.

A few thoughts:

1) We need Mcleod to play at the 2017 level
2) Need to see further improvement from Barnett & Sweat
3) We know what we will get from Jackson, Cox & Hargrave in the middle
4) I'm concerned about the LB corp having to face Saquon & Zeke 2x each
5) Mills could be useful at S on 3rd down but I don't see him being a force against the run

Dont hold your breath on Barnett

I'd rather that money went to Byron Jones so that we could keep the draft picks, but I'll gladly take Darius Slay. A 3rd and 5th is pretty good, albeit the fact that Slay is 29-years old and coming off a bad year does give me some pause. But we're desperate, still have 8 draft picks, and beggars can't be choosers. :yeshrug:

Fully-healed Fletcher Cox, returning Malik Jackson, ascending Javon Hargrave, veteran Brandon Graham, and Derek Barnett on the defensive line. :ehh:

Darius Slay helps the secondary a lot because, if he can bounce back after 2019, they'd finally have someone who can keep every team's WR1 from gashing us for 100+ yards each and every game. But it still needs work. I'm not thrilled with Malcolm Jenkins leaving, because McLeod was mediocre last year and I never wanted to see Jalen Mills back with the team at all. But hopefully the Eagles can either land a decent CB2 (Prince Amukamara? Or did he get signed already?) or the new DB coach can actually get something out of Sidney Jones or Rasul Douglas in that spot. If so, we'd have an improved secondary - which leads to an improved pass rush. So, there's some hope there at least.

I think we're just going to have to accept and deal with a thin, not-very-good LB unit next season. :francis:

Best case scenario would be Alshon, first & future 2nd

I'm with you, but more... cautiously optimistic.

If Darius Slay can bounce back in 2020 and play up to his usual standard, then it's a good move. A #1 CB helps this defense so much. Every team's WR1 can't gash us for 100 yards and 2 TDs like they did in 2018 and 2019. The pass rush actually has time to get to the QB because his first option isn't open every goddamn time, allowing him to get the ball out in 2 seconds. Sidney Jones and/or Rasul Douglas don't have to cover the other team's top receiver, which would help them, and they can get more Safety help on their side. But the key is if Slay can preform up to his standard, which we just won't know until 2020.

He's good against the run & a solid pass rusher but we need him to get to the 10+ sack level immediately

I agree he is solid vs run and he get pressures but he doesnt finish
he also isnt insanely strong so he cant bullrush like graham
he isnt speedy
and he doesnt have an array of moves- which is why i am not juiced about him

I actually like Sweats traits more but he has more work to do

I want Sweat to beef up to 260 while maintaining his speed & also improve his strength & flexibility
