I used to stay having this argument with friends. Those nostalgia goggles blur their vision and they can't see clearly. Yu yu is superior in every way.

Funny how both series lost steam after their ultimate evil died from the protagonist. YuYuHakusho carried on better tho. Three Kings let me down after hearing about "how good" it was. Saga was completely rushed and rehashed. Dark Tournament is unquestionably the best YuYu saga. Those battles were ridiculous. How Hiei hold the top 2 moments in the series.

Yu Yu is a top 5 anime to me. To me it's not even close how much better it is than DBZ. While I like DBZ it's heavily overrated it's like Fisher Price My 1st Anime, it's a good starting point. But there are a whole lot of anime I rank ahead of DBZ heck Dragonball was probably better. Yu Yu like others said was more balanced, they didn't waste any characters and even when Yuske went S+Class everyone else upgraded to A+ and S Class. The story was coherent and all the villains were all believable threats not pink Stay Puff Marshmellowmen that act like Goofy or teenage robots.

are all definitely better than Dragonball to me, and series like Bleach, Gundam Wing and History's Strongest Disciple Kenichi are on the same level.

If we're throwing in original anime series I'd throw in Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann, Eureka 7, Code Geass.

Hell, I'm probably missing a lot more series.

Naruto and Bleach aren't really better especially Bleach. Neither is Kenichi. The rest are but that's not much and if we go by manga than YYH is out. Death Notes a popcorn thriller with a iffy second half.

But realistically DB is still the blueprint for most of that shyt anyway. It's too influencial to be placed aside. Vegeta vs Goku is probably still the GOAT rivalry. Frieza may be the most hated villain while most of those other stories the vilians are loved. And most of the characters are Goku clones to the last detail.

Naruto as whole isn't much better, I agree. I feel that parts of Naruto blow Dragonball out of the water, but the series but the past couple of years has been a damn mess. I stopped reading Bleach years ago, but I feel like it's a new age version of DBZ, but because it's not DBZ there's not nostalgia and influence masking the crap. YYH was crap after Chapter Black...but DB after Cell wasn't much better. I agree about Death Note, but the drop off isn't as drastic as something like Naruto.

When I say the series is better I try to ignore influence, because if that's thrown DB is easily the best
