Lol. That’s one of those only at night movies. Get depressed and get in the bed with a nice glass of white wine then feel sorry for yourselfWhat a way to start your day!
I notice that people who do get back together end up breaking up again though. It’s good at first, bc there’s the relief of renewing what you had; but after awhile, They can’t let go of the trauma and it’s hard to recover.I was hoping they would get back together at the end , they had/have a pretty good chemistry.
Don’t rush into anything. If I had any advice to give my 26 yr old relationship self it would be- start stacking your paper, read, learn and pick up as many skills that you can; don’t have kids in your 20s, and “yolo” is a lie from the darkness of hell bc you will pay for all those mistakes for years to come. Don’t be a “yes” person trying to look out for everyone else before yourself bc you’ll miss out on time that you could have spent bettering yourself and those same people won’t be there when you need them.I'm 26
Yeah I agree.I felt like this movie portrayed a lot of the problems folks face in the modern marriage.
Marriage forces both sides into a sacrifice of self to the benefit of the family, children, etc. The typical man has to shoulder the burden and responsibility of providing, protecting, and doing what's best for the family. Personal freedom, joy, etc takes a back seat, and appeasing the wife and children become the highest priority.
Ditto for the wife. She spends a lifetime being a homemaker, responsible for the children, and even the man as well as his upkeep(or lack thereof) is a reflection of the woman. This a hard ass role that'll eat away at the soul.
Historically folks just accepted this shyt and a lifetime of misery. But folks nowadays are more enlightened, and demand more. We all want to be happy. Problem is people are getting into marriage without taking into account the hardships.
In the movie, Charlie took the lead, provided the best he can, and felt he did well for the family. Deep inside he had a lot of pent up resentment feeling like he sacrificed his prime years for this relationship. He got a real wake up call during the divorce process as the modern society has no sympathy for the man and more times demonized for walking out on his family/billed as a failure.
Nicole, like all women had to bottle her individuality, creativity, ambitions, etc to facilitate the home life and career of her partner. I'm going to get flamed for this, but a modern, western women is not built for this. Women have achieved a level of economic success where it's damn near impossible to expect her to be complacent in taking a back seat. That lid is eventually going to explode. To their benefit, courts are on their side.
All in all, folks generally are not ready, nor built for a successful marriage. To make matters worse we choose partners based on emotion which more times leads to problems as real issues ( finances, personality differences, etc) that will pose huge problems are over looked.
Man I'm a stop rambling. Movie 4.5/5. Get married brehs and brehettes
Absolutely.Yeah I agree.
I think society is moving in a direction and our concept of marriage needs to CHANGE.
We are holding on to concepts and values that are not conducive for success in the modern world.
And this is coming from someone who is married and loves his wife.
But it seems like ppl who fight the hardest for the concept and institution of marriage be the ones with the most DIRT in they closet.
We can’t expect women to have to fall back the way they did when they couldn’t work Or didn’t make as much. But a lot of women still want a “traditional” marriage without knowing or wanting to make old school sacrifices. Same thing with modern men. Nikkas want they women to be submissive but have no idea how to lead or provide.
Shyt is a mess when you think about it.
Absolutely.
People have been raised on this idea of marriage and have completely bought in without taking a critical look. We're moving further and further away from religions and the familial alliances to secure assets ( most don't got none now) that necessitated these obligations so I'm sure it's going to be done away with at some point.
Hell, I'm raising my children free from religion, and no pressure to marry. Complete opposite of how I was brought up.
