gross beat's only good for after you have your beat

then you group drums to a channel, and you use a simple gross beat pattern (I use 6, and tweak it so it's even more minimal), then you record/play live and ride the gross beat knob on and off every 4 bars so you can get an instant drum pattern. Kinda like human change ups

like I said breh, grab a 4 bar loop in edison, put it into fl slicer, divy it into chops and play the qwerty until it sounds good. Put the order you want in piano roll, then throw drums to back it

with drums you can use fl slicer like with the samples, use a straight break in the playlist looped, or you can use individual hits in the sampler like 9th
Good looks breh. I've yet to use fl slicer. Thats probably gonna help out a lot because I havent been able to figure out what to do with samples other than letting them play out or slightly switching up the arrangement. I'll look into that more. when i read the explanations & shyt i still get confused and lost in that shyt lol

Sit on it and experiment. I came from the MPC so it wasnt that hard for me. But sit on it and play with the plug ins. When i started with FL Studio there were no tutorials so i just sat on it, jus like the MPC where i would just sit for hours and just play around. Thing is i got thousands of vinyl records, almost all the sounds i have are default mpc sounds on literally ONE sample pack. One thing you have to understand is that dont worry about whats good or bad just do it. if it sounds like shyt so be it, it takes a long time to get it going.

i made this completely on fl studio because i was lazy and didint wanna lug the MPC around one day. Of course i used samples and no im not gonna reveal what they are but thats not my point, my point is, sit on it, play with it and if you look at a tutorial and dont know what youre doing then just keep trying. i didint really get a full hold of it until 2 years after i got it, but i didnt REALLY get my own sound until 2012 starting from 2005. but thats me. people are better and faster these days.

Making some small progress. Just added Sylenth1....any other vst's i should look out for?

The last 2 beats I've worked on I did the Fruity Slicer on a random sample and played out a simple melody and then played synths & shyt over it...One track I'm trying to find the right sounds to actually take the sample out of the beat because it kind of sounds too busy..could be all the static from the sample.

What exactly does slicer do once you have the sample/drums?

basically creates a bunch of chops for you and assigns them to keys. you can adjust the type of cuts as well. i have a lot of learning to do before i can make something that doesnt sound choppy as fukk lol
Ah, gotta try it then. Do you make a 4-bar loop or 8-bar loop before you use slicer?

ive done both. the first beat i did i actually threw an uncut sample in that was like 2 minutes long and got some tiny pieces from that. i def need to cop a legit keyboard to make it a little easier. using a computer keyboard gets tedious real quick.

And then if you add your drums to the mixer, on the left side browsers under mixer presets there's Mono Tape Simulation, drag that onto your drum channel. Unclick everything except vocoder and it'll make your drums knock.
been looking for this option. i cannot find this at all.

well done, go ahead and bless youself.

you are going to get a lot of side comments by these dudes who spend money on mpc's and shyt but still have zero skills to make a knocking beat. with FL you can make a knocking ass beat its a very good and fairly easy to use software programme. check the youtubes they are a lot of dope beats made by FL producers.

i cant find the jackson 5 fl studio sample beat that was :wow:

but heres another head nodder.

word, it really doesn't matter what you use.
I spend 1600 on a MV-8000 when i started and only use FL Studio now.
yeah i held off for over a decade because i wanted to own an MPC or something like that and always looked at FL and things like that as sucker shyt but it clearly is not that and time is moving forward.

And i dont have MPC money right now :yeshrug:
