i like her beat selection. very 90s type sound but with a modern twist. can't front, she knows how to rap. i just dislike her for some reason. i think it's the intense attention-whoring, most artists are attention whores but something about her brand of att-whoring is annoying. maybe it's the air of pretentiousness she carries. she's like a pretentious avant-garde ratchet chick who has good beats.

my nikka, breh!!
she makes house records, that would have uk permeation.
yet, I am not sure if world music will permeate in the same manner it did when backstreet made it a blockbuster draw.

so, I really don't see her having much permeation in the us.
if she made more actual rap records,..maybe..
till, she makes more actual credible rap records..
I don't see much happening for her.

you have to at least fool the public and stoke the flames and build a culturally minded or street/urban fanbase.
way before you sell way the fukk out and make actual house records.

banks, is trying to bypass all that.
then, fold it into a urban pop draw and it usually does not happen when it is so far progressed in the house genre, off top.

you have to gradually build to the house shyt.
even, latifah single wise built to welcome to my house.

she ain't pop out on some lame shyt like craig g and make a house record without making a mark with her other culturally enriched smash singles , first.
nor, did latifah go to far into the house realm originally.
banks is so far into the realm, of no return.
I don't think she can cultivate a following using the cultural base of rap.
mixed with the non-cultural base of house, predominately dominating the bulk of her material.
on top of the fact,..her only actual rap song of note is the jim jones diss.
which can and I believe was perceived after all it was said and done as a pander to the underground move.
that did not resonate in the maner a diss of that level should have.

so, afer that,...
I really don't see her making much domestic noise as a credible draw, stateside.
I could be wrong and maybe someone pushes the rolling pr ball of steam.
that triumphantly pushes an artist into being a superstar.
yet, that is more payola and deception/bait&switch, and not really a draw.
that we are expecting and will credibly give credit to banks for building.

But wait a second.....Didnt we have a Nicki Minaj era? Nicki didnt mix her Hip Hop with House but she did it with Dance and pop( 2 categories that Banks could easily be associated with) and soon we had young girls dressing up as Nicki Minaj for holloween and refering to themselves as "Barbs." U saying it can happen for 1 but not the other?

I get what u mean by the lack of culture taking away the credibility but just as I had to conclude that the new york youngins who use southern type beats when making rap songs are doing it because their influences coming up consisted of the big southern influence in the 2000's and that its not that these NY kids have lost their roots but that the southern influence in 2000's Hip Hop is what they grew up on so to them it is their roots...wasn't their a big 'mash up music' moment in the 2000's?....Thats what these kids were raised on.....Think about this tho......This chicks era is different from ours yet she still takes it upon her self to make the music sound retro......Does that not count as acknowledging the foundation which would give some credibility to her music ?

Ass. It's only so long fake hiphouse rappers can pretend.

I dont know how that applies to Azealia. This is one of the first songs she ever put on the internet back in 08. She just did a new video for an old song. The original track is from Ladytron. Azealia just rhymes over it like she does with other house tracks
