I feel the older generation of Blacks post MLK aren't criticized enough.

who are you referring to when you say "ignores black youths protesting and speaking out"? What has any of the nonsense done but make a hashtag? They still killing blacks every week and you have Activist Hustlers like Shaun King starting a ton of Go Fundmes for these killings but Tamir Rice mom had to cream make him because they couldn't afford to bury him and she's borderline homeless now.

Have you even done enough to warrant a hashtag?

And if it wasn't for public outcry you think think police bodycams would be a thing?

well i don't know about your city. but in my city there was thing called crack... and it built a big generational gap where im from.

You ain't never lying. My boy back home was a crack baby. Pretty much raised himself. By 15-16 he was RUNNING the streets.

In my opinion, the crack epidemic was one of the most destructive forces to hit black america, second only to slavery. That shyt literally wiped out an entire generation and forced the next generation to raise themselves.

No doubt. But I was mostly speaking on the older generations more contemporary influence. How they act now. I feel older Black Americans are overly reluctance to give credit when credit is due, where as my generation is constantly praising the former generations accomplishments and recognizing their plights. And rightly so.

I can understand that. I wish i had a resolution. Unfortunately I've witness a rather significant disconnect between the youth and the elders in my own circles and find it disheartening. I have to ask tho, being the said youth, what are things that to you would bridge the cap and rectify some of the issues u have in mind?

That's a good question. I not sure if elders want to hear from the youth. Growing up older folks never really asked how I felt about things. And I think that's where a lot of the disconnect. comes from. Black youth are kind of raised in a "should be seen, but not heard" kind of environment. I'm not sure how to bridge the gap.

Like someone said earlier in the thread the current generation should work towards not being in this position. We should learn from the past and better support our youth in our old age. With the rise of the internet age and social media I think it will become easier to avoid the effects of media brainwashing as well as making it easier to organize.

On the coli and in the '"Real World" I feel like Black teens as well as young Black adults (say 25 and under) are getting an unfair amount of the blame when it comes to the woes of the Black American community.

I know this may be unavoidable but I don't intend for this to be a divisive thread that puts young Blacks against older. I understand that if we are to succeed than we must come together for the sake of us all. This thread is meant as a bit of constructive criticism and a little food for thought.

Now with that being said.

Older Black Americans really seem to love criticizing younger Blacks over the superficial. Fashion choices, taste in music etc. Are dismissive of our political presence. Downplaying movements such as "hands up don't shoot" and "Black lives matter". as simple "twitter activism" even though there are plenty young folks on the streets rather than behind a keyboard and mouse.

Need I remind you that my generation was raised by yours? If you are unhappy with the direction young Blacks are taking our culture shouldn't the blame start with the person in the mirror? I mean the past generations thinks sitting down and speaking with their children is some sign of weakness. That savagely and I mean savagely brutalizing your child is an acceptable punishment for every little thing your kid does. And you wonder why my peers grow up "hoemotional" when they were never taught to deal with their issues without violence or violent language?

You know how many older Blacks are intentionally passing down self hate to their own lineage? Where did you think we learned to "c00n" from. White media is partially to blame but not 100%. How many of us heard an older Black person as a youth go on about "nikkas can't have nothing" or "can't take care of nothing" or "nikkas ain't shyt" or "can't be on time" etc. How many of hear that now? Or say that ourselves now?

Many older Blacks act like going to church and and being a devout believer actually accomplishes something for us as a group.

Surely others feel similar to me on this topic. My generation is not perfect but none are.

My generation wouldn't be where we are without the work of past generations but it's the present generations job to build on top of what the past did. So why not believe in us?

We're all in this together.

(I'm a little sick so hopeful my post makes sense)

Dysfunction breeds dysfunction.

I feel a parent that raises a child that can't be functional and productive failed as a parent.

And doesn't hate with the sad state of affairs between our men and women, because they never learned how to be an adult. I see it all the time, and it doesn't help being a rebel is a status symbol for a lot of people.

Indeed and the sad part is that many of them understand the game they just don't really give a damn. I live around a lot of baby boomers and it's like most of them are devoid of common sense... one couple had the nerve to leave some of that jesus stuff at my door knowing full damn well I'm not down with that. The thought of leaving a dollar or two at my door has never occurred to them after all these years!

They also have the art of "playing possum" down to a science, they love to play stupid whenever you bring some real shyt to their attention. They want to be known and respected like people who actually had their children's best interest at heart and took measures to make sure those plans came to fruition.

Generation X aint much better but at least many of them will acknowledge the problems that exist, all the baby boomers want to do is put band aids on gunshot wounds and preach philippians 4:13 to us.

its cool tho, i understand the game so im gonna eat off all the naive motherfukkers

Baby boomers been eating for a while out here :sas2:

Now that im older, i look back on my aunt and cousin and the shyt they did in the streets..

I get emotional because i know my grandmoms and gpops tried to help her and didnt raise her that way..

All i can see is my grandpops eyes at the funeral

She changed her life, but eventually she died..

My other aunt raised 2 kids who fell victim to the same hood bullshyt...Babymomma/Babyfather drama etc..But the mother was never home and the grandmoms had to raise an adult and her two kids..

She changed her life as well...We have real discussions and shyt really hits home

Threads like these really puts shyt into perspective:mjcry:
