I don't get herbs who say naruto is better than Dragonball Z. THE NAMEK SAGA ALONE KILLS THAT SERIES

Naruto could have been better but then part 2 and the Ninja war in particular dropped the ball on the series. Naruto also never established a meaningful convincing villain outside of Orochimaru which it promptly neutered. DBZ meanwhile has Freiza and Cell.

Sasuke could have been a great villain but the writer backed down and while he became an antagonist he was never really a villain. Kishi walked up to the line of making him a real villain but ultimately chickened out.

Orochimaru was ambitious and evil for the sake of being evil. He wasn't some clown with a sob story and/or a well-intentioned extremist like 90% of the other villains in the series were. Itachi would have been dope as a villain but he like is bother was only an antagonist and didn't even remain that.

To me at least an antagonist is simply a person that opposes the protagonist. Being an antagonist doesn't require one to be an actual villain at the same time. In Death Note L is the antagonist and Light is the protagonist but L is actually a hero and Light is the villain. Villains are evil, ambitious, usually charismatic and should be entertaining characters. Establishing an enjoyable villain is very important to the narrative. An entertaining villain can carry a story on their own and much easier than an entertaining hero can with the lack of sad villain.

It's not a coincidence that people rate the party of Naturo that actually have a convincing villain (Orochimaru) as the best parts of the series and the parts that are rated the worst either have watered down villains or lack a convincing "big bad."

sakura had her shine fighting some of the akatsuki with grandma. she played a good role.

just about everyone played a good role, it wasnt just about strength. In dbz it was majority (wait till goku gets here)

I will say this.....

Naruto has more heart and has characters that make you feel compelled to care for to a degree.

DBZ..... In the grande scheme of things.... There's was never no one that's I really gave a fukk about. Don't get me wrong.... They were cool.... But if they die..... So what.... Someone can just wish them back.

Certain characters got flabby and sick at extreme rapid paces
