Regarding their racial humor, I think to them it's just humor. If they think it's funny they go with it, regardless of what context the jokes are in. They do movie references, abstract humor, dark humor, pop culture jokes, the whole thing. That's what separates them from guys like Chappelle who pretty much built 90% his show around racial humor.
