Yeah, most mainlanders understand nationality better than race, but you, coming from the country you're from, is that something you prefer?

Ive gotten used to it. It pretty much goes with me every where I go from Brazil to the UK to China, believe it or not...even CONGO!!!!! I am American before Black in all these places.. Race is a misconception anyways. The reason it matters so much to you, is because you live in america which is race driven, the rest of the world are driven other ways like tribe, nationalities, religion, you know ancient rivalries that existed waaaay before america was even a country. Ive been away so long, no I dont have a problem being american before black.

Africans know you're black but are you African or American? Try going to Nigeria and calling yourself an african.....you'll be met with a complex answer......trust me...because I did this in Congo, and whats funny is I speak Lingala (altho with a very thick american accent). I was treated like a foreigner is what Im getting at. So if my own race in my own land view me as american, you best believe others outside of america view me as american. its IN america that now the shyt changes....we divide into color categories....

It's funny how threads about Asians always do numbers but I've never seen any in depth discussion about Hispanics/Latinos despite them having a much larger presence here. There's only three, maybe for members including myself that will go to bat for Asians and it's always Chinese-centric on top of that.

I never see any discourse from them, and if anything, Chinese folk, American born or other probably have one of the least influence on black issues at the end of the day. Chinese people mind their own business more than anybody else, while mexican and black relations are a pretty damn big issue for American inner cities and America as a whole. Mexican threads just center around east coasters talking about how mexicans run California's prisons and neighborhoods lol

Somebody was talking about, Richard Aoki, the Asian informant that infiltrated the Black Panthers and I corrected the thread stating that he was Japanese. Less than ten posts later he went right back to being called Chinese

I feel you. but like I was trying to explain to folks earlier...social complexities. Its literally a different PLANET here. Like I try time and time again to explain this to people, but folks are set in their american mentality and the cac medias they read without even trying to expand their minds and view it from another perspective. Like you might hear a story about some nigerians getting fukked up for selling drugs or forbidden from a spot, but Ill walk around perfectly fine. My skin color is black tho, so is it by skin color or nationality? obv nationality. but because of where you live, you read an article about some african immigrants and assume its about ALL black people. I dont think a 3rd gen black frenchman with a french last name has the same issues as an african immigrant.

Black americans are afraid to travel yet they dont realize that when they move abroad they're actually treated like an american for once. Why you think so many soldiers moved abroad after WWII and Vietnam? They saw how they were treated. Now if you're a poor black immigrant from (insert country) you might not be treated the same way. Just like if you're a cac from London, you might be treated differently than a poor drunken russian cac whos out here pimpin the russian prostitutes. Heck even a RICH nigerian will be treated better than the Russian AND the Brit. So is this race based or economic based? poor uneducated vs skilled worker? social complexities.......

She literally has nothing. nothing at all, when I told her american, she said arrogant, when I specified by skin color, she literally could only think of what she may have saw on tv.

The chinese are more about nationality than they are race. race is a bit of a hard concept for them to swallow because its 99% hans. For example when I ask her what race are mexicans....she draws a blank as if she never thought of it, then says red people? then I bring to her attention they speak spanish, so then she looks at me with a blank and says spanish people? she literally has no idea what a mestizo is, when I say we call them brown, she says "no you're brown, theyre a little bit more white".
when I ask her if she knows about the colonization and mixing of the natives, she says yes, so I ask her again, what are they? she responds "a little brown". :mjlolz:

When I think of brown, I think of chocolate color, so it surprised me the first time I heard someone refer to Hispanics/Arabs as being "brown".
