sorry breh but its so miniscule its literally a drop in the lake. literally. most chinese folks havent even spoken to a westerner because westerners in china dont speak chinese. you might get some rich snobby kids that heard from their friends that went abroad or studied abroad but seriously? thats like the 1%, its almost like sayin us folks who have actually been to china can shape the way the american people view china as a nonthreat military. damn near impossible.
most of the ignorance comes from THEIR OWN media (which hardly covers intl news for obv reasons). but if it does, its usually about africa being poor and war torn...which it is.
but when you ask about actual AAs? most will say 'I dont know" or "they sing good" or "basketball".
here's a conversation I just had with my gf (btw, im the only black american she has ever met or even spoken too)
Me: Hey Im having a discussion online, I want to ask you something
Her: Yes?
Me: do you know what stereotype means? (proceeds to google the chinese translation)
Her: ting bu dong (chinese for I dont understand)
Me: *enters preconception, gets chinese translation*
Her: Ah yes, what about it?
Me: I'm going to give a country, and I want you to give me a one word preconception common among your average chinese
Her: Ok.
Me: Congo
Her: Poor
Me: Rwanda
Her: War
Me: France
Her: Romantic
Me: America
Her: Arrogant
Me: All Americans?
Her: Yes
Me: Hmmm ok, Black Americans
Her: Cool
Me: wtf?
Her: Yea! like Rappers!
Me:
She literally has nothing. nothing at all, when I told her american, she said arrogant, when I specified by skin color, she literally could only think of what she may have saw on tv.
The chinese are more about nationality than they are race. race is a bit of a hard concept for them to swallow because its 99% hans. For example when I ask her what race are mexicans....she draws a blank as if she never thought of it, then says red people? then I bring to her attention they speak spanish, so then she looks at me with a blank and says spanish people? she literally has no idea what a mestizo is, when I say we call them brown, she says "no you're brown, theyre a little bit more white".
when I ask her if she knows about the colonization and mixing of the natives, she says yes, so I ask her again, what are they? she responds "a little brown". :mjlolz:
