The Anarchist Soccer Mom: Thinking the Unthinkable

Not using this to divert from the gun control topic. Even if you think all guns should be banned, this woman brings forth some good points and sources them well.

These are all valid points and they should be addressed. This mother did the right thing. I hope she gets the help she needs.

But the mother of the shooter was an avid gun enthusiest. And she taught her mentally disabled son how to shoot, and took him to practice all the time. She also kept an entire arsenal of weapons inside of the house where her mentally disabled son lived.

I think this shows that the problem should be addressed on both ends. Yes we should peruse better mental health standards in the country, but we should also limit access to guns by mentally disabled people.

Sure, but we have a thread on where we are discussing gun control. Can we keep both separate?

Even if we address gun control as you wish, there will still be these people walking around without a proper way to treat them and a whole lot of illegal guns on the streets (until they are somehow made to disappear).

We still have asylum and mental hospital but they are hell on earth breh :to: the abuses and mistreatment that going on in there are just better left unsaid , putting somebody in there is just for containment purposes so they wont hurt themselves or other., I have never heard of anyone being put in there and coming back out any better.

This is my point breh. And her point.

This is something that needs to be addressed.

Am speaking for the lady who shared the story , she is trying to compare her son who is obviously a extreme case of mental illness with the Columbine shooters , who up until now i haven't read about them being diagnosed mental disorders, and this most recent case its still too early to say anything ,

Yes, this is true.

The early reports is that this person DID have mental issues. We'll see. I don't think the Columbine Shooters had any issues.

Counselor: A person trained to give guidance on personal, social, or psychological problems

Psychologists cannot prescribe medicine.

Social workers even clinically licensed ones cannot prescribe medicine.

So my guess would be their primary care doctor. They can.

But a specialist conducting a full psychiatric evaluation is what he needs. Not a general physician.

Come at me.

Can't read properly can you?

That conflict ended with three burly police officers and a paramedic wrestling my son onto a gurney for an expensive ambulance ride to the local emergency room. The mental hospital didn’t have any beds that day, and Michael calmed down nicely in the ER, so they sent us home with a prescription for Zyprexa and a follow-up visit with a local pediatric psychiatrist.

Fair enough. Mental health is a big issue in America as is overall health in general. For decades there has been talk of health reform but no real changes have been made. I agree we should do something I just don't know how to get it done.

Providing real healthcare might be a fantastic way to start. Also, investing in institutions for the mentally ill and in research might help. I wonder how much Federal Funding these things get.

With her case yes

But

I think as we have this discussion in this thread people need to know there is a difference between someone having a mental illness and someone being mentally disturbed

We can't start making excuse for every "crazy" person that decides to shoot up a school, mall or workplace.

It s difficult to get any of these things done, because as soon as someone tries people start yelling out "SOCIALIST". It's difficult to let go of old ideas and move forward. I honestly don't know what it's going to take or if it will ever get done.

Forcing people to buy private healthcare, when these insurance companies make people with mental problems fight to get treatment was not a good first step.

This should be the real issue, not gun control
So BOTH can't be huh ?
There HAS TO be one and only one cause for this massacre...
:snoop:

Look here, some think neither gun nor mental illness are the cause of this :

I don't think it was the correct first step, but it was what could be passed within our dysfunctional government, and it will help some citizens. I'll take what we got over nothing.
