Gamers don't care. They'll cry about it for a week and move on.

It might seem that way but customer trust in your brand slowly chipping away is why we’re here. A lot of people say Nintendo and Sony only sell hardware because of “marketing” or cool factor but all that stuff has to do with consumers having faith in the brand. Consistency.

People cheer for these acquisitions but the same people will start to bad mouth the way you handle the companies and IP you acquire. It adds up

Look at Embracer

this mofo mattrick single-handedly ruined xbox as a brand. like ive never seen anything like it in gaming.. microsoft still trying to recover.
The thing that really hurt the Xbox One was that it was $100 more than the PS4. Mattrick's statement was no worse than Ken Kutaragi telling gamers to "...Work more hours..." if they couldn't afford the expensive PS3. Mattrick was in charge of Xbox during its peak 360 years. He was a much better leader than Phil Spencer.

Such a fukkin failure :wow:
Q3 earnings have been significantly elevated due to Microsoft recognizing Activision's revenues as part of its own--ABK made up 61 points of the 62% growth in content & services earnings.

Read more: Xbox beats all previous full-year earnings in just 3 quarters, could break $20 billion by June

Yeah it is a failure. You can't see the forest through the trees. If this continues their hardware won't be able to support any major exclusive titles because they won't be able to make back the investment it takes to make games. That means they will have to accelerate putting games on other platforms making their own platform less valuable and further slowing it's sales. If Sony sold 4.5x the amount of consoles Microsoft sold in Q4 2023 them Microsoft sold 1 million. Since they say closer to 5x it's less than a million consoles sold in holiday quarter of 2023 when they were giving major discounts on them and people still wouldn't buy.

The quarter also broke records for engagement on xbox consoles. Meaning more people were playing and spending money on xbox consoles than ever before.

You are purposely choosing to only look at one data point while ignoring everything else.

Xbox as a whole is in a better position than they’ve ever been.

Sony talmbout their profit is gonna go up cause they are gonna sell less consoles this year.

That shyt is broken. Microsoft just jumped off the train early.

Consoles will always exist, but they are no longer the dominant way people play games, and the rules of what the console market calls success have very much changed.

It was said by nutella on the earnings call
Now on to gaming. We are committed to meeting players where they are by bringing great games to more people on more devices. We set third quarter records for game streaming hours, console usage, and monthly active devices. And last month, we added our first Activision Blizzard title Diablo 4 to our Game Pass service.

Subscribers played over 10 million hours within the first 10 days, making it one of our biggest first-party Game Pass launches ever. We were also encouraged by ongoing success of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3, which is attracting new gamers and retaining franchise loyalists. Finally, we are expanding our games to new platforms, bringing four of our fan-favorite titles to Nintendo Switch and Sony PlayStation for the first time. In fact, earlier this month, we had seven games among the top 25 on the PlayStation store more than any other publisher.

In closing, I'm energized about our opportunity ahead as we innovate to help people and businesses thrive in this new era. With that, let me turn it over to Amy.

The quarter also broke records for engagement on xbox consoles. Meaning more people were playing and spending money on xbox consoles than ever before.

I'm failing to see how this translates to what you said.
A popular game gets added to Gamepass(mind you they didn't have to pay for it) and they counted streaming hours to say engagement went way up. If only 3.4 million people on Gamepass downloaded and played for about 2~3 hours over the course of 10 days, that would give you roughly 10 million hours. :mjlol:

Hey man, straight from sony

Engagement is key

You can make up your own stan scenarios to downplay it. But straight from both CEOs that’s the most important metric. And xbox had a great quarter

So do they pay themselves when a 1st party game has “high engagement”? How does that translate to more money being made outside an actual purchase, if current game pass subscribers are the ones logging in hours?
