I have no issue with GOP challenging some of these noms because that's what they are supposed to do but I will say this, if they want to play hardball Biden will need to match them and do it quickly. It'll be interesting to watch.
He'd be more dove-ish than Flournoy and seems to be more simpatico with Biden.

Nah I can't cosign this. Sec of Defense should be a civilian appointment. I do not want to see a continuation of Trump style decisions where military figures receive government posts.

there are 100 percent legitimate concerns about having retired commissioned officers serve as SECDEF. however im not sure practically how much of a difference four years versus seven years in retirement makes in their civilian character. any retired commissioned officer is likely going to retain at least some of their mindset from time in the military. especially somebody with stars. i think those concerns will be present whether they are retired for four years, seven years, twenty years, whatever. IMO the seven year rule is more about preventing the appearance of a conflict of interest.
