Jackson, 79, had planned to take part in a march to Sinema’s office meant to push the lawmaker to team up with her Democratic colleagues to end the filibuster, KSAZ-TV reported.
yeah, i get that they wanted that outcome, but im not sure why they thought them showing up to go to jail would move the needle at all. this woman clearly is working for a different type of constituency with a different political calculus than would be moved by moral displays

Getting arrested for protesting isn't a big deal when you're a full time activist.

I imagine the hope is that it encourages others to organize and put pressure on her and others.

People are still refusing to accept that the vast majority of Americans are proud to be American and are happy.

They aren't looking for wild transformative change and the uncertainly that would likely come along with the filibuster.

American Pride Ticks Up From Last Year's Record Low

Yean there are plenty of dummies in that lot.

Americans don't know what they NEED let alone what they WANT especially when their
nightly news and other media regular tells them "Everything is fine".

They don't need it. And the argument isn't that everything is fine. It's that it's good enough..

Maybe you've never been at a point in your life where you're making good money, family is doing well, and you don't see the need to upend that to take a chance that may set you way ahead or set you way back.

But that's how the average American sees life. And needing radical change isn't how the average American experiences life. shyt, most of the things we point out have strong bipartisan support.

I always enjoy this sub because the most vocal people who talk about how everything needs to change are either the children of immigrants who have a better life because their families moved here or they're highly educated high earners talking about student debt relief or merely approaching things academically.

It's all dishonest, but it makes for a good time.

You're never going to get anything that makes America better without first acknowledging its one of the best places to live in the world. :yeshrug:

I actually think the progressive/left are the most right about things@ZoeGod

but I think your take is the most realistic

I’m going to relate this to the Obamacare legislation. Obama said they realized at a certain point a free healthcare/ medicare for all overhaul was probably not going to pass, So they look that at the data that showed betwee Medicaid, medicare, employer coverage and VA only about 15% of Americans were uninsured.

They then framed the legislation to provide that 15% a competitive choice for healthcare while making form of preventive care more accessible for everyone

to this day, progressives and the left shyt on Obamacare because it didn’t overhaul the system but how many Americans are actually upset at Obamacare and don’t reap some benefit from it?

For sure. I just think the idealism could use a bit of pragmatism with regard to implementation.

As long as you're making life better people should be happy even if it isn't perfect.
